Vilnius Airport Car Rental

Vilnius Airport Background…

The Vilnius Airport is simply named after the capital of Lithuania, and is currently the largest airport in the country - in terms of commercial traffic – with over twice the passenger count that the Kaunas Airport currently boasts.  Seemingly, the European economic problems over the last few years have not affected Lithuanian airports to the degree that many of the western European airports were.

The airport is situated about 105 minutes to the south of the city of Vilinus and can be traveled to via your rental car very easily.

Vilnius Airport Car Rental…

Currently, there are several car rental companies that offer services at the airport.  These include Autobanga, Eurorenta, Europcar, Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Budget and Neorent – among others.  The first five of these mentioned are situated right next to baggage claim B area.  The last three in this list are placed near the baggage claim C area.  If you are still having trouble finding an agent, don’t hesitate to ask one of the information folks of the whereabouts of the agent.

Vehicles are parked outside, but are not really close actually.  Some of the rental car companies may move the rental close to the outside of the terminal upon the expected pick-up of their customers.  However, if they do not, we will give you directions to the rental car parking lot.
As you walk down the steps and outside the front of the terminal, you will notice a large, multi-story, white building to your right.  Right next to the side of the building will be a little concrete walkway.  The walkway butts right up to the side of the white building.  Take the little walkway to the designated parking area for all of the rental cars.  The vehicles will be about 100-150 meters from the front of the terminal building.  Once you get to the cars, you will notice the rental car signs planted in the ground designating which rental car belongs to which rental car company.

Once you find your rental, you should probably take a couple of photos of the car – just to be on the safe side.  You never know when the condition of the rental car might come into doubt.  Once you do this, you’re good to go.

Vilnius Airport Directions to the Downtown Area…

Once you exit the parking lot and drive in front of the large parking garage to you right, you will take a right and then another right at the stoplight onto Dariaus ir Girėno g.  Drive on the main road for about 5 km until you get to the heart of the town.  It’s about as easy as that.

Vilnius Airport Car Rental Return…

When coming back to the airport from the downtown Vilnius area, youwill most likely want to reverse the directions above and travel back via V. Kudirkos g, then Svitrigailos g.  And as you travel back, you will probably want to re-fuel at a service station somewhere nearby.  The one that we recommend is at a little place called EGas, about a kilometer after you cross the train tracks traveling back to the airport.  The station will be on the right-hand side – you can’t miss it.

Hotels Near the Vilnius Airport…

Since we’re talking about the EGas above, you might consider this as a pretty decent place to stay for a night.  Right off the main road on your way to the airport the EGas boasts a small breakfast area, free wi-fi and secured parking that is free as well.  Prices seem very reasonable, considering the proximity to the airport.  Not often can you book a 3-Star hotel for less than 50 Euros as you can here.  We generally prefer this one to the one right at the airport – the AirInn Vilnius Hotel.

Other Car Rental Considerations…

Make sure and check out the GPS options at the Vilnius Airport.  They can be added to the booking for a small fee.  Also, various snow gear can be added to the booking – and will make a lot of sense for many rentals in the winter months.
