The Seville Airport in Spain sits about 8 km from the city center of Seville. It is generally a strait shot into town on the A5 - E4 Motorway. The airport flew its first plane out in 1914 and hasn't missed a beat since. The airport generally services around 4 million passengers per year, both to and from the Seville area.
Seville Airport Car Rental.....
There are essentially five car rental companies located at the Seville Airport. These are all situated in the ground floor of the primary terminal building and include Auriga, Avis, Europcar, Hertz and National Atesa. Each car rental company would make a fine choice for your ground transportation out of the Seville Airport area.
Leaving the airport is not too difficult in your rental car. First let me say that there are overhead blue signs posted every so often, so please pay attention to those as you exit the area. Paying attention and driving slowly may save you a lot of time in the end. If traveling to Seville, you will want to take the A4 - E5 Motorway, driving West. After you get on the A4- E5, continue Westward for about 5.5 km
After passing the Merida exit (watch for overhead white signs pointing to Merida and to Sevilla) continue onward to Sevilla on the Av de Kansas City. The Av de Kansas City will run out of road near a BP on the right hand side. Watch for signage pointing you to the Centro Ciudad, or city center. Go thru the following traffic circle as straight as possible (you will actually veer a little to the right, even though the sign says to go forward). You will turn left on Av de Menéndez Pelayo after a couple hundred meters. Continue on Menéndez Pelayo until you run into Paseo de las Delicias, and continue onward until you reach the city center.
Returning your rental vehicle back to the airport isn't difficult once you get out of town (that's easier said than done). Simply take the A4 - E5 back towards the airport until you see the airport signs. Follow the car rental return signs to get your car back to the place it needs to be.
The fuel policy at the Seville Airport may actually be 1 of 3 of the following scenarios. First, the car is filled with a certain fuel level and it's your job as the customer to return it at that fuel level, whatever it is. Second the car begins with a full tank and you will need to return it with a full tank. Thirdly, and worst perhaps is where the car is full on departure and it's your job to run it to empty. Not only is this difficult to do as a car renter, it's often dangerous in that it promotes the possibility of the car renter driving on fumes as he/she brings the rental back to the airport. Find out what type of option you have, and if possible attempt to get option number two.
If you find that the car that you rented needs to be filled up before returning, you will find an exit after leaving the city on the right. The exit is not marked well (there is a littl blue sign planted next to the motorway on the left-hand side of the road with a picture of a fuel pump on it but it's not super-visible) but it runs somewhat parallel to the main road as you're traveling back to the airport. The service station type is called a Cepsr and has a red roof and trim.
Seville Airport Amenities.....
The airport is pretty basic, but there are far worse in Spain. It was re-done in 1992 for the 1992 expo (celebrating the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Americas) and so it's not so outdated that you can't enjoy yourself.
You'll find ample food and shopping choices and the same high prices for both as you would expect in any airport. There are buses or taxis that run from the airport to the city center if renting a car isn't an option for you.
Types of Rental Vehicles Available at the Seville Airport.....
Just about any type of car imaginable is located at the Seville (within reason of course). Luxury cars, SUV's, compacts and economy cars and the obligatory 7-passenger minivan or minibus is also generally available. You will find the prices at the airport cheaper than at the car rental location downtown at the Train Station. Count on a 20% savings at the airport vs. the train station. Why? No one knows. Maybe there's more demand downtown. Either way, we have always found that an oddity given the leasing fees required at the airport from the car rental companies.
