Quebec City Jean Lesage Airport Car Rental

Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport Background…

Québec City first started its aviation history back in 1929 when the city built its first airport hangars in Sainte-Foy. The city started making use of its first airfield in winter of the same year for airmail purposes. About ten years later, when World War II began, the need for a military base in Québec City was called for and an airfield was built for the Royal Canadian Air Force. A couple years after the airfield opened it began receiving regular additions and expansions until finally receiving its first passenger terminal in 1954.

The terminal that still stands in use today was built in 1973 and has been expanded numerous times over the last few decades. About twenty years after the new terminal was completed, in 1993, the airport received its current name and has been on a mission to continue increasing the number of passengers it services each year. Today the airport services more than one million passengers annually.

Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport Car Rentals…

Six internationally renowned car rental companies offer their services to passengers of Québec City International Airport every day from the time the first plane departs to when the last plane arrives. All six booths can be found along the main level of the administrative buildings. Those looking to rent a car from an on-site company will be able to do so through Avis, Budget, Hertz, Enterprise, Alamo, or National. Due to the ever renovating nature of airports, be sure to check out a nearby directory upon landing for directions to the rental company booth of your choosing.

Once you’ve filled out the proper rental agreements you’ll be directed to your rental car and be ready to start your journey around Québec City.  Vehicles are parked on the grounds outside of the terminal –easily within walking distance.  There is currently (2012) a parking garage just about completed, so cars will either be stored on the new construction or just next to it.

Airport Directions to Quebec City Downtown…

The airport is located along the outer edge of the city. To get to where all the action is, you’ll have to exit the airport via Rue Principale and follow the road until you can take a right onto Route de I’Aeroport. You’ll quickly find yourself merging onto Autoroute 540 S by simply continuing to head straight, but you’ll want to make sure you stay in the right lane. Soon after merging onto Autoroute 540 S, turn right off of exit 3 E and onto Autoroute 40 E. Continue straight as the road turns into Autoroute 440 E until it dumps you out onto the corner of Boulevard Charest O and Avenue Saint-Sacrement. Turn right onto Avenue Saint-Sacrement and then left at the next major intersection onto Chemin Sainte Foy. Continue straight as the road turns into Rue Saint-Jean until you can turn right onto Avenue Honore Mercier S. Congratulations, you’ve made it to Downtown Québec City.

Being located just outside a major Canadian city and right off of the Autoroute, you really shouldn’t have many issues refueling your vehicle before taking it back to the airport. The easiest method is to forgo the Autoroute and take Boulevard Wilfrid Hamel to Route de I’Aeroport instead of Autoroute 540. The boulevard has a number of different gas stations to choose from along the way and even a few different hotels that would make excellent accommodations for those looking for something within close proximity of the airport.

Other Airport Amenities…

The airport is equipped with state-of-the-art amenities as one would expect an international airport to be. There is free Wi-Fi located throughout the airport for your convenience, a Kids Zone to help parents deal with restless children during their wait, a VIP Lounge for those looking for more upscale hospitality, and numerous shops and restaurants to choose from. You won’t quickly be bored at Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport.
