Porto Airport Car Rental
The Porto Airport (OPO) or also named the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is 6 miles away from the city of Porto. It's the third busiest airport in Portugal. It's named after the Prime Minister of Portugal who died in an airplane crash. The airport has great service and was honored with a first place for service in Europe and fourth overall worldwide for airports with less than 5 million passengers annually. 
Don't stay without having your own rental car to enjoy the whole region. Rental agencies at the airport include Budget, Europcar, National, Alamo, Hertz and Sixt. All of the rental car companies except for Eurocar (Eurocar sits a little further off by themselves and you can expect a very short shuttle to their location) are on the airport premises and if you're not completely loaded down with luggage you can walk to the car renal car parks. As you exit the front of the terminal, the rental car parks will be a few hundred meters to the left of the exit.
Porto is 18 km from the airport and around a 20-30 minute drive by car. To get to the city of Porto in your rental car you will travel out on Av. do Aeroporto and wind your way out of the airport. Veer right down a little hill (watch for little white signs directing you to Porto) then up a little hill until you merge into the Travessa do Barreiro. Continue on this road for about 4 to 4.5 km, watching for signs directing your to the city of Porto all the way. There are a lot of signs on this road, so just drive fairly slow and pay attention. Then merge onto A4 via the ramp to Matosinhos. Drive on the A4 for about 2 - 2.5 km until you take exit 1 toward Porto/Lisboa. This exit will put you on A28 South for about 3 km into the city of Porto.
To get back to the airport, you will most likely travel the A4 until you run into Exit 3 back to the airport. Also, you'll probably want to re-fuel your rental vehicle before returning. There is a Jumbo petrol service station very near the airport. When returning your car from Porto, you will see the station on the right hand side of the road. After you exit towards the airport, you can taxi around for a couple of streets and re-fuel there. 
Hotel Premium Porto Maia - This hotel has all the standard amenities you would expect. Each room has satellite, cable TV, air conditioning, minibar and free Internet access. The restaurant serves authentic traditional Portuguese, international and also Spanish cuisine. The bar has a flat screen TV and serves many snacks as well as a large variety of drinks. You have access as a guest to a fitness center and indoor pool which is located adjacent to the property. Also the Porto Zoo is 800 meters away with the center of town being 6 miles. This hotel is about 7 km from the hotel via rental car and is situated in the little community of Maia.
TRYP Oporto Expo Hotel - Situated right next to the Exponer Exhibition Center, the hotel has many extras to enjoy. Each room and also suites have LCD TV's, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and a minibar. The property has a modern fitness center, free parking and an outdoor pool. The restaurant serves international as well as many regional dishes. The atmosphere is relaxing and elegant and the pool bar has the drinks and snacks you want. The beach is a 5 minute drive and the airport is around 4 miles away.

Various rental car types exist at the Porto Airport. Minivans, 7-passenger vans, compact cars, economy cars and luxury cars each have a place at the Porto Airport. One thing to note about the Porto Airport is the difference in price between the smaller compacts vs. the larger luxury cars. The compact cars can be as cheap as 8 to 10 Euros per day while the luxury cars range up to 100 Euros per day. So be conscience of what is out there.
Also, you can pick up some fairly inexpensive add-ons at the Porto Airport. These would include GPS's for your trip around the area and various children's booster seats for the families on vacation in the Porto area.
