Pisa Airport Basics.....

The Pisa Galileo Galilei International Airport (PSA) is located just outside Pisa. It shares traffic with the Pertola airport located in Florence. The airport handled over 4 million passengers in 2010. The Pisa airport is also home to the Italian Air Force and is used consistently for this purpose.

This airport is the fastest growing airport among the top fifteen airports in the country. The numbers are rising consistently every year. The city of Pisa is located at the bank of the Arno River at the Tyrrhenian Sea. Most people come to Pisa to see the famous leaning tower, but there is so much more to see. Tourists have access to many palaces, historic churches and several beautiful bridges that cross the River Arno.  Also, Pisa is the home of the famous University of Pisa, a twelfth century school that has been on the forefront of Italy's education for centuries.

Location of Rental Cars.....

The rental terminal is conveniently located only 500 meters from the main terminal and you have access to it by a free airport shuttle. If you don't feel like walking it's only a 5 minute walk away in a nearby surface parking area (to the right, or east of the terminal exit door).

Car Rental Companies to Choose from at the Pisa Airport... 

Pisa airport has a well equipped fleet of
vehicles to choose from with 1500 in all. You can rent cars, minibuses and even vans if you like. The main benefit of such a large selection is you'll always have a car available if by chance you arrive late.  Car Rental companies at the Pisa airport include Europcar, LIberty Rent, Sixt, Avis and Easycar.  Each will make a fine choice for your trip out of the airport and beyond.

Directions to Pisa from the Airport...

The distance to the center of Pisa is just 4 km and will take only 8 minutes depending on traffic.  To get to the city centre of Pisa, you will travel out on Piazzale Corradino D'Ascanio toward Via Eugenio III to get out of the airport. Stay on  Via Eugenio III and then you are going to make a U-turn at Piazzale Corradino D'Ascanio to continue on Via Eugenio III.  Keep driving and stay to the left on Via Eugenio III.  It will be clearly marked by the road signs.  Turn right taking the ramp to Roma/Genova/Viareggio/Livorno/Aurelia.  Follow the ramp around onto Strada Grande Comunicazione Firenze-Pisa-Livorno.

Go for just a bit and take the Pisa exit. Again, the signs will clearly be marked.  From the Pisa exit, you'll turn onto Via Ponte a Piglieri/SS1. You are going to follow this road for 1.2 km. You're going to turn right onto Lungarno Cosimo Primo dei Medici. Right before you turn, you'll cross a bridge over a river. After the turn, you'll follow this road parallel with the river.  Take the 1st right onto Piazza di Terzanaia you'll see many signs posted to the various destinations. Right before you veer off, you'll go under an overpass. You're also going to go through 1 traffic circle.  Piazza di Terzanaia is going to turn into Lungarno Ranieri Simonelli and then Lungarno Antonio Pacinotti which will take you to the heart of the city and near the University of Pisa.

 Pisa Airport Car Rental Return...

Traveling back to the airport from Pisa, you should find that if you reverse teh above directions you'll be fine.  Most folks will travel back South to the airport via SS1.  Once you go under the Superstrada Firenze overpass, you will soon see a little ERG fueling (petrol) station on your right.  Fill up here, and travel back to the airport the remaining couple of km's.  Remember, drive past the terminal, and the exit to the P5 parking lot will follow thereafter.  As soon as you make your exit, you should be able to see the rental car company signage on the left-hand side.  Follow signs to park your rental car.

There are many shops to choose from while you are waiting for your flight. It truly has a cosmopolitan feel and this is reflected by the services offered to you. The Galileo shopping center is open to all guests at the airport.

You can find everything from clothing, leather goods, cameras, jewelry, books, shoes and accessories, and an upscale hair salon.

Dining is also well represented with Tuscan foods and fine wines to taste or even bring home. There's a wide variety of food choices from Italian, steak, and just about anything that you need. From sit down to self serve, snacks and drinks, you'll be well taken care of.  There's also several convenient services such as, Banking services, pharmacy, exchange currency offices, beauty and hair salon, and Wi-Fi at the airport.

Golden Tulip Galilei Pisa - The hotel is convenient and comfortable and is considered a perfect place for the traveler. It has all the modern amenities including an up to date fitness center, Internet access and access to a beautiful terrace in the summer.

Hotel Alessandro Della Spina - Hotel Alessandro Della Spina is also at a great location with clean modern rooms, Internet, Satellite TV and outstanding customer service. They have a daily breakfast buffet and they also have Wi-Fi access in the lobby of the hotel. Rooms start at 49 euros.

Hotel Bologna - Close to the airport and highly rated - it has clean and spacious rooms with all the modern conveniences with a very beautiful courtyard which is located internally in the middle of the building. The customer service was reviewed as excellent and the location as well as rooms were quiet. The starting rates for rooms are 39 euros.

Types of Rental Vehicles Available at the Pisa Airport.....
