The Palermo Airport in Sicily sits about 35 km west/northwest from the town of Palermo, and is not too difficult to find. If you are driving from Palermo, hop on the A29 towards Trapani take your exit at “Puntaraisi - Aeroporto Falcone e Borsellino”. If you are coming from Trapani, you will also take the A29 towards Palermo, and take the same exit as above. The Palermo is often referred to as the Falcone-Borsellino Airport or the Punta Raisi Airport. The airport is very busy with over 4 million passengers served in 2010.
Palermo Airport Car Rental.....
If you want to rent a car at the Palermo Airport, you have options. Each of the car rental companies listed above maintain their cars on the airport premesis. If renting a car from the Palermo Airport, you will hop on a shutttle bus after picking up your baggage and visiting with your car rental agent near the baggage claim area. Shuttle buses run pretty much continuously throughout the day.
If traveling to Palermo, you will exit the airport facility NorthEast via the Aeroporto Falcone e Borsellino. Notice overhead signs directing you towards the city of Palermo at the first traffic circle - and continue the same direction thru the circle.
Be careful to watch for signage, as there are several options to take, and many of them are wrong. Continue to watch for green overhead signage on the last traffic circle at the airport and stay on Bretella Aeroport Falcone e Borsellino, which is now A29. Drive for about 4km from the airport.
Next, watch for green overhead signs at the fork and stay left for another 17km. You will soon see the Medetteranian Sea to your left. Follow A29-E90 right into Palermo.
When returning your rental vehicle back to the Palermo Airport, you will want to re-fuel. We generally recommend refueling near Palermo, as we know of no filling service station right at the Palermo Airport.

More helpful information can be found at the Information desk on the first floor, not far from the Gesap ticket office. It opens at 6:00 in the morning and closes at midnight. You can find out just about anything you need to know there (including car rentals).
Besides car rental, there is a pharmacy that operates in Departure Hall on the first floor and is open from 8:00 in the morning to 8:00 at night. For passengers needing medicine, this can be a very handy service offered by the airport.
Also, first aid, banking (Banca Nuova), lost property area, post office and even a baggage wrapping service on the first floor in the departure area are additional services offered.
