Oslo Airport Car Rental

Oslo Airport Basics.....

The Oslo Airport (OSL) or Gardermoen is the main airport that serves Oslo.  It's an International airport that is the second most used in all of the Nordic countries.  It handles around 19 million passengers per year and has 2 runways and it is connected to the city by a high speed rail line.

Oslo is the capital of Noway, the busiest and most populated.  It's considered one of many global cities and is also one of the most expensive cities to live in.  It ranks second after Tokyo, Japan.  Oslo is known for it's large system of green areas and parks to enjoy.  Some of the larger and more famous parks include Frogner Park, St. Hanshaugen Park, Bygdøy and Tøyen Park.

Oslo Airport Car Rental.....

You have access to many car rentals on the west side of the railway station right outside of the main terminal.  The companies include Avis, Europcar, Budget, Hertz and Sixt.  You will find each of these companies' agents situated in the arrivals area of the airport.  They are all on the West side of the airport, not far from the railway station.

The vehicles will be found at the P4 parking lot.  As the lot is a little too far to access via foot, there is a free shuttle service that runs back and forth from the terminal to the lot.

Directions to Oslo from the Airport...

Getting to Oslo from the airport is not difficult.  The drive is will take you around 50 km from the airport and it takes approximately 45 minutes to get there by rental car.  After picking up the car you want to head out and get on Lufthavnvegen.

The route does have tolls so you'll want to be aware of this.  You're are going to travel on Lufthavnvegen which turns into Rv35.  Follow this road for 3 km.  You'll get to a fork in the road and you'll want to stay left so you can get on E6 going towards Oslo.  Follow E6 for around 37 km.

You'll see a big blue overhead sign for Sentrum/Drammen/E18.  You want to follow this sign and get on Rv190 for 4 km.  This is a partial toll road.  You want to take the exit before entering the tunnel.  After the exit you'll wind around and enter a traffic circle.  You want to take the second and then make a right on Konows Gate which turns into Dyvekes Vei.  Keep going straight and it will then turn into Bispegata/Rv161.  You'll then want to make a right at the stoplight at Oslo gate.  Oslo gate turns into Grønlandsleiret which then turns into Grønland. By this time you will be in the city.

Oslo Airport Car Rental Return...

Getting your rental car back to the airport from Oslo is not difficult - you'll just reverse the directions above.  You will definitely want to re-fuel before returning your rental car back to the airport.  As you'll be returning on the E6 most of the way back to the airport, you'll probably have to make an exit somewhere to refuel.  We recommend taking the 35 Honefoss - Nannestad exit just before arriving back to the airport.  Take the exit, drive less than 1km and you will run into a Statoil service station near a traffic circle.  You can't miss it. It's so close to the airport that you can get back on teh Edvard Griegs Veg. and take it straight to the airport, less than 1km.  To do so, turn left (North) out of the fueling station road onto Edvard Griegs Veg.  Signs will be posted.  As you approach the terminal, you will begin to see cars parked on both sides of the road.Return your rental vehicle to the 4C building.  This is a multi-story car parking location right at the terminal.
