Oshawa Airport Car Rental

Oshawa Municipal Airport Background…

Oshawa Municipal Airport originally opened back in 1941 as the Royal Canadian Air Force Station Oshawa due to the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan that was creating airports to use to train World War II pilots. The training facility was closed in 1944 shortly before the war ended and the airport began conducting strictly commercial flights. It served the area well for decades before the Pickering Airport idea was born in 1972 and started asking questions as to whether the airport needed to be replaced or not.

Ever since 1972 there has been major opposition to the Pickering Airport idea. The City of Oshawa squashed all rumors in 2008 when it adopted the Oshawa Municipal Airport Business Plan, which states a minimum twenty-five year commitment to the airport including more than a dozen upgrades that were completed in the span of two years. The airport is now doing better than ever before now that its foreseeable future is guaranteed. Expect more expansions and additions to the airport before its time is called into question again.

Oshawa Municipal Airport Car Rentals…

Due to the massive amount of airports in the Toronto metropolitan area, smaller airports like Oshawa Municipal Airport are left with few (or zero) options. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get a rental car at all. Discount Car Rental at 101 Simcoe Street North isn’t exactly on the airport (in fact, it is downtown, a couple of blocks East of the Valleyview Gardens).

Oshawa Airport Directions to Oshawa...

Oshawa is one of the smaller cities that make up the outer edge of the Toronto metropolis. It’s actually strategically located to quickly offer access to any tourist attraction you desire. The main metropolis city areas are located just a little ways to the southwest, while the beautiful Canadian countryside lies just a little ways to the northeast. Once you have your rental car you’ll be able to experience everything Canada has to offer in a rather small stretch of land.

Gas Stations Near the Oshawa Airport...

Just to touch on the subject, refueling your car is a breeze. Gas stations are scattered all over the metropolitan area. You may not care for the prices much, but there’s no way you won’t be able to return with a full tank. The rental companies will happily fine you if you do.

Other Airport Amenities…

The Oshawa Municipal Airport offers everything from the usual restaurant and retail shops to flight schools, museums and charter services. Anything you could possibly need done through the aviation industry can be accomplished at the airport. All the usual amenities are also offered around the airport, although don’t count on free Wi-Fi being implemented anytime soon. If you have any questions just ask nearby employees for directions to the information desk and from there you’ll be able to obtain the answers to all your questions regarding the airport and then some.

Other Car Rental Options to Consider…

If you’re going to be driving around the largest metropolitan area in Canada you need a GPS system. Avis and Enterprise offer their own personal GPS systems for just a few extra dollars a day. Both are satellite enabled and constantly provided with real-time information to help you avoid heavy traffic and standstills throughout the city. You also won’t ever have to worry about getting lost among the winding roads that make up Toronto’s traffic infrastructure. Save yourself some time and money; get a GPS system with your rental vehicle.
