Newark Airport Car Rental

Newark Airport Basics…..

Newark International Airport, also known as EWR, is one of the busiest airports on the United States East coast. Located in the bustling city of Newark, New Jersey, this airport is a very frequent stop for international flights, and often is chosen as a cheaper (and less crowded) option over LaGuardia. A stop at Newark International Airport isn't only a bargain buy for travelers, it's also a good way to relieve the stress of traveling. Going on an impromptu trip? You can buy tickets to just about any flight at the front desk, too.

Newark Airport Car Rental.....

Travelers thru the Newark airport will have a few choices when it comes to the car rental company they would like to use.  Actually the companies are divided on where you will find them, however.  You will find Dollar and Budget in the P2 Station.  The others, including Avis, Hertz and National are located at the P3 Station.  There is a P1 station nearby as well, but is currently closed until further notice.

Airport Amenities.....

The amenities that Newark International Airport offers travelers, especially businessmen, are extensive.  There are the typical news stands and duty-free shops that dot international airports in Newark's airport,  but the service doesn't stop there. Newark International Airport has plenty of restaurants, unique shops, and bars to enjoy a drink before you fly to your destination. Cheeburger Cheeburger, the Java Moon Cafe, and Sora Sushi are some of the more popular places to grab a bite.
Rio Douro is a neat little Portuguese joint.  I have included a picture below - Pretty good food.

However, most of the time, people just choose to enjoy a cup of java at Dunkin' Donuts to relieve the jet lag. Businessmen might also want to take note of the shoeshine stations that are located throughout the airport.

When it comes to luxuries offered at airports, Newark International Airport is one of the more impressive stops that a traveler can choose. This is because terminal C is chock-full of different spas and wellness services for businessmen, vacationers, and spa enthusiasts to enjoy. The services are generally of good quality, but the noise from outside can be difficult to tune out if you have sensitive hearing. Then again, if you're getting a massage, you probably won't want to complain. The staff is very talented.

Nearby Hotels.....

Outside of the airport on routes 1&9 are plenty of hotels. Car rental access to these areas is fairly easy as the airport is closely situated to Interstate 95.  Although these hotels might not be the most luxurious you will visit, they do offer a place to stay if you need to take some time and rest before you head out to your final destination. Considering how much time might need to be spent on the road in order to reach EWR, it's understandable why these hotels are so popular. Luckily, there are plenty of hotels to choose from, so there are always rooms available if you need to take a nap before hitting the airport.

It's also worth noting that traffic around EWR can be very confusing for those who aren't local to the area. If you are coming in from north of Newark, it's best to use the Garden State Parkway to I-78.

Highway 21 tends to get very crowded during rush hour, and around 1PM, so it's best to plan your trip accordingly. If you are coming from the south, the Garden State Parkway is usually a much better option than the Turnpike. Opting for I-287 is smart if you are from the western part of New Jersey.

For locals who use EWR for short trips, the train can provide a quick trip back and forth. Arriving at Newark Airport is actually quite shocking to those who have never set foot in it; the airport is massive, and has three main sections devoted to different groups of airlines. It's a wise idea to check ahead of time which terminal (A, B, or C) you are assigned before you go to the airport. Getting from one to the other can be time-consuming.

Car Rental Driving Distances From Airport.....

Of course, most folks flying into the Newark Airport are not there to visit Newark.  Not that there's anything wrong with Newark, it's just that the airport is not used for that.  Instead, most folks are traveling to New York for whatever reason.  But many folks, when deciding between Newark and JFK will choose Newark.  It's smaller and the facilities are too, but it's just easier to get around in.

We have put together a few traveling distances out of the Newark Airport for visiting travelers.  These are just estimates.  If you're looking for exact car rental distances, you might need to reserve a GPS for your journey.
