To get to Naples from the Airport, you will head southeast our of the airport. Turn left on Viale Fulco Ruffo di Calabria and stay on Viale Fulco Ruffo di Calabria. You'll go through a traffic circle. At the fork stay right on Viale Fulco Ruffo di Calabria. Follow it along and it will turn into Via Oreste Salomone . You'll see a bunch of signs and green one at the top pointing toward Tangenziale. Get on the ramp to Tangenziale/Ottaviano . You'll see a clearly displayed lighted LED sign and that's where you want to go.
You'll get on A56 which is a partial toll road and you'll immediately enter a tunnel. After driving on A56 for 3.5 km, get off on exit 5-Capodimonte going toward Via Capodimonte. This is also a full toll road. It will be clearly marked with a hanging overhead sign. Make a right on Via Capodimonte and you'll see a palace up ahead. Make another right onto Tondo Capodimonte going around a park in the median of the road. Stay to the right onto Corso Amedeo di Savoia Duca d'Aosta. After driving this road for a short while, it turns into Via Santa Teresa degli Scalzi. Stay on the same road at it will turn into Via Enrico Pessina and finally into Piazza Dante Alighieri.
Piazza Dante Alighieri turns into a one way road. As you drive this section to Naples the road name changes a couple more times. Piazza Dante Alighieri changes into Piazza 7 Settembre and then finally Via Toledo. From there you are just keep going to continue to follow the street along as it keeps changing names again from Via Toledo to Piazza Carità. At Piazza Clarita make sure you stay to the far left following the street along. Turn left to get on Via Cesare Battistti.
Make a left turn on Via Armando Diaz and then make a right at the light on Via Medina You'll see a building to the left with and ELDO sign on the front of the building at the intersection. Then a right onto Piazza Municipio and you'll be in close approximation to the center of town and a lot of the historical sights.
When returning your rental car back to the Naples Airport, we generally recommend that you stop somewhere close to re-fuel. The car rental companies will do it for you at the airport facility, but they will charge you more than you will pay somewhere else. If traveling back on the Via Santa Teresa degli Scalzi Northward, there is at least one API fueling area on the the right-hand side of the road. These are not your typical gas stations, where you make a turn and get off the road you're driving on. Instead, they are "pull-over-to-the-side-of-the-road" type areas. The API will have a green sign that's hard to miss.
Remember when you return your vehicle, you will go to the same twisting, turning roads that you took to get to Naples. If using the directions above, also remember the almost-1km of tunnel that you travel thru.
