Munich Train Station Car Rental.....

Several car rental companies have offices set up at the train station, including Europcar, Sixt, Budget, Avis and Hertz.  Watch for signs upon exiting the train and locating your rental car desk.  After locating your car rental agent, you will need to find your vehicle.  Rental car companies are distributed around the station - most within a block or two.  So, you will need to walk to collect your car, and remember the location of the vehicle so you won't have trouble when returning the car.

Most cars hired at the Munich Train Station have a 'full-full' fuel policy - meaning that you will pick up your vehicle with a full tank and you should return it with a full tank.  There are a few service stations near the Munich Train Station, so any of them would serve that purpose.  Depending on which way you're arriving back to the station from, stop and re-fuel to save money on rental car fueling charges.

Places to Eat Near the Munich Train Station.....

A pretty good eatery, just within three or four blocks from the main East entrance into the Munich Train Station is the Augustiner Braustuben.  Just about everyone reports having quick service and great food -  not to mention the large portions.  For Americans, there is an English menu to help with your choices.  For those who like a great piece of Sauerbraten, the Augustiner Braustuben reports some of the best around.  Little tables and beer-keg umbrellas dot the outside sidewalk eating area, making it great German food experience.

Hotels Near the Munich Train Station.....

The Jedermann Hotel sits about 300 meters East of the above-mentioned Augustiner Braustuben, on the same street and the same side of the road.  To get to the hotel from the station, simply walk out of the main Eastern entrance, walk South for a hundred meters, then turn right and walk on Bayerstrasse for about 700 meters.  The gray building sits on the left hand side of the road (remember, keep walking in the same direction for another 300 meters to get to the restaurant above).  The Jedermann Hotel is clean and comfortable, although a little long-in-the-tooth.  Prices are reasonable, considering the location.  The breakfast is wonderful.

Other Munich Train Station Rental Car Considerations.....

Of course, you will pay more at the station than you will at some random car rental location downtown.  You probably knew that.  But if you're looking for a convenient location to pick up and drop off your rental car, this is probably a pretty good choice.  The Munich airport is about 40 km from the city center, and airport locations are generally just as expensive in terms of rental car price - if not higher.  Many rental car locations exists throughout the city, and if you do a little research you may find one nearer your eventual destination that could make good sense.  Simply type in your street location in the booking engine above, and see what comes up.  You could opt to take a taxi from the Munich Train Station to your hotel and then find a rental car nearby.  Folks often choose this option, in order to save a few bucks (car rentals away from train stations and airports are typically 20-30% cheaper).  And this might make good sense, especially if you're going to hire your vehicle for a longer period of time.

Rental vehicles available at the Munich Train Station include both smaller and larger vehicles.  Also, vans and SUV's are typically available as well.  Simply type in Munich in the pickup location above and then choose the Munich Train Station as a rental car location.  Many options will come up - along with the prices that you will pay for the time frame quoted.
