The airport serving the island of sits pretty much between a town called Mahon and the Southern-most tip on the Minorca Island - one of the four largest Balearic Islands situated in the Mediterranean Sea. The island is owned by Spain and the natives speak something called Menorqui. However they do speak Spanish (at least most of them) as a second language.
Menorca Airport Car Rental.....
The Airport currently has three car rental companies that operate out of the airport. These include Avis, Europcar and Hertz. With each of these you will find a well-established car rental company that should take good care of you. You will need to walk a short distance from the terminal to the car rental area.
To get to different areas on the island you will simply travel out of the airport car rental area. After hopping in your rental car, you will see that there's really only one way out of the airport facility - that is North on Ctra de San Clemente. After driving about 1 km North on it, you will come to a traffic circle that will shoot off in different directions to different parts of the island. The traffic circle will have a large pyramid structure in the center of the circle. Apparently the pyramid functions as a sundial.
To travel to Mahan (Mao on the sign) stay right at the traffic circle and travel about 3 km into the city. Also, you will veer right to get to Es Castell, Poima, Sant Lluis and Sol Del Este as well. Watch for signage on ME-12 (the road that shoots off from the traffic circle).
To travel North and see all that it has to offer, you will most likely continue on ME-14 straight thru the Pyramid traffic circle near the airport. Go thru the next traffic circle, and on your 3rd traffic circle, you will be able to turn left (North) to the Northern parts of the island. This will be ME-1.
When returning your rental car, we generally recommend that you re-fuel somewhere close to the airport. However, we don't know of any petrol stations within a km or two of the Menorca Airport itself so we thought we would list a few of those that we do know, away from the airport.
If you're traveling from the Northern parts of the island on ME-1, there are a couple of Cepsa petrol service station (oddly, one on each side of the road) about 5 km from traffic circle that you'll turn right on to get back to the airport. If you're traveling from Mahon from the East, you will see a couple of service stations downtown. Finally, there is a BP Station in Sant Luis on a road called Avenida de Sa Pau. Of course, there are many on the island and it would serve you well to remember where they are so that when you return the car from your location, you'll have a location identified before returning the car.
Menorca Airport Amenities.....
Apparently upgrades have been made to the airport over the last few years, so by most accounts the reviews are pretty good. The airport has a lot of chrome accents and is big enough (even though it's the only airport on the island) to accommodate passengers to and from the Minorcan Island. The airport boasts a few eating places and shopping places as well.
Types of Rental Cars Available at the Menorca Airport.....
Economy cars, mini cars, intermediate cars, compacts, vans and minivans and luxury cars are all generally available at the Menorca Airport. Daily prices get down as low as 8-10 Euros per day all inclusive for the smaller compacts and run as high as 80-100 Euros per day for the 7-passenger vans. Much depends on the availability of the vehicles for hire and the time of the year of the rental. Also, you might want to check out the add-ons that are available thru the car rental companies at the airport location. Various types of children's seats and GPS's are always available at the Menorca Airport, as long as the stock is available.
