Manchester Airport is just 14 km from Manchester City Centre and is conveniently located less than 1 km from junction 5 of the M56 motorway. Such close proximity to the motorway network means Manchester Airport is the perfect destination from which to begin your exploration of Cheshire and North Wales to the West, Yorkshire to the East, the Lake District to the North and of course the famous city of Manchester itself.
Manchester Airport is also home to one of the retired Concorde supersonic aircraft which can be viewed as part of the Ringway Visitor Park, along with other historic aircraft. This aircraft viewing area is also regarded as one of the best in the UK, drawing up to 250,000 visitors per year.
There are several car rental companies established at the Manchester Airport.
Europcar seems to acquire the most customers via an established partnership with the airport. But there are also many more options, including Sixt, Easirent, Alamo, National, Hertz, Avis, and Budget. Of course, we offer a comparison booking engine that will show you the best prices for each.
Manchester Airport has a clean and modern feel throughout all 3 terminals which all provide a wealth of amenities from Starbucks coffee and Burger King burgers to Trattoria Milano serving traditional Italian cuisine.
Travelers can enjoy a wide range of cosmetics, perfumes, aftershaves, alcohol and tobacco at tax-free prices from the duty free shop and browse a number of high street stores such as Next and Tie Rack. Comfortable airport lounges are also available in all 3 terminals, proving complimentary drinks, snack and internet access.
Manchester's roots can be traced back to AD79 when a Roman fort called Mamucium was built, remnants of which can still be seen in the cities Castlefield district, however,Manchester rose to prominence in the 1800s as the world's first industrialized city and was the world's largest marketplace for cotton goods in the Victorian period.
Nowadays, Manchester is more famous for two things. Football and music. Manchester United are one of the world's most famous and best-supported clubs, as well as the wealthiest, being valued at over £1bn. Local rivals Manchester City have recently been taken over by the Abu Dhabi Group who have invested heavily in new players and most recently won the FA Cup.
Music has featured heavily in Manchester's recent history, from New Order and The Smiths in the 1980s, The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays in the 1990s and more recently Oasis. Manchester also boasts a number of live music venues from the 15,000 capacity MEN Arena and the Apollo to smaller venues such as The Academy and Band on the Wall. Manchester is also home to the Halle and BBC Philharmonic Orchestras and the Royal Northern College of Music.
We have found some areas of local interest that you may want to peruse in your newly found rental car from the airport. These distances may not be exact, so if you feel the need to have exact car rental distances, you may want to reserve a GPS when booking your rental car. With that said, here are a few:
Airport to John Rylands Library, 10 Miles

Vans, Minivans, Mercedes (or some other type of Luxury vehicle), Compacts, Intermediates, and Economy cars should all be available when you hire your car at the Manchester Airport.
