Madeira Airport Car Rental

Madeira Airport Basics.....

The Madeira Airport (FNC) which is also recognized as the Funchal Airport is located by the city of Funchal. First opened in 1964, it caters to international and national flights to and from Madeira Island.  The airport handles roughly 500,000 passengers a year and passengers walk from the airplane to the terminal, because there aren't any air bridges. The airport terminal is also mostly underground.

Madeira - Funchall Airport Car Rentals and Driving Guide.....

You have many cars to choose from these car rental companies at the airport.  These include Alamo, AutoEurope, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Honk, National, Sixt and Zoom.  Each car rental company has an agent situated on the ground floor in the arrivals area of the airport.

Funchal is the number one destination for car rental customers flying into the Madeira Airport.  To get to Funchal, you will want to exit onto the ER101 (some folks call this the 'coast road' of the island).  Drive on the ER101 for about 15 km until you exit onto the R. da Ribeira de João Gomes.  This is a weird little exit that takes you thru two tunnels (see picture below) and finally curves around South towards the city of Funchal.  Don't panic here.  Just take it slow and watch for all the signage.  After exiting onto R. da Ribeira de João Gomes, continue South for a couple of more km's.
