Lyon Airport Basics.....
The Airport of Lyon (LYS) is the one of the biggest airport in France, right after Paris-Charles-De-Gaulle, Paris-Orly and Nice Côte d’Azur. It’s about 25 km east from Lyon, in Colombier-Saugnieu. The facility is comprised of 3 Terminal and it can handle around 10 million passengers. Yes, it is large.
Lyon Airport Car Rental Companies.....
Folks who want greater control on their visit to France often choose the car rental, over bus or even high-speed train. The reasoning is simple. No waiting. No lines. No crowds. You simply hop in the hired car and go wherever, whenever you like. That's the upside. The downside is that you will pay a little more. Most of the time, the decision between car rental vs. the high-speed rail is one based upon what type of needs you may have as a traveler. Car rental companies at the airport include Avis, Hertz, Europcar, National and Sixt. All companies are impressive, both on service and cost, and would make a fine choice.

It’s easy to get to the airport, by many different ways. First with a car, the Highway A432 is connected to the highway A42 to go North, or A43 to go south. But the roads are clearly indicated, so you won’t have any issues if you pay attention to the signs. If you don’t wish to use a car, you can take the bus (Satobus), there are many options to go to Grenoble, Amberieu, Annecy, Chambéry, etc. But the best way to reach the city is probably with the TGV (high-speed train), there is a railway station in the airport. It’s the fastest and simplest way to move in France, from there you can go to Paris in an hour and a half or to Lyon Part Dieu in less than 30 minutes.
Lyon Airport Amenities.....
The airport offers around 10 places to eat or drink a coffee, if you have a long time to wait, there is two restaurants you can try, the first one, NHube (Terminal 1), is a nice place to relax and enjoy a good meal for price going between 20 – 40 €. The food is Mediterranean and really tasty, most say. NHube also offers free Wi-Fi, TV room, private rooms and vegetarian menu.
Another place worth visiting is Espace Le Bec, an exotic environment offering refined cuisine in the same area. The price will run from 19 to 36 €, I haven’t tried this one yet, the menu looks really refined, but the food apparently is not.
But you can also go to a faster place like Brioche Dorée (Terminal 2) where you can find sandwiches and salads. The price aren’t too expensive, and the food is usually fresh. The best place we have found to drink a coffee, is probably the Segafredo coffee. You can try all sorts of Italian Coffee at a reasonable price, the staff is really nice and polite.
The other one is the Caffé Ritazza, a really nice place with good coffee, cappuccino, café latte, caramel delight, and Frappuccino. But they also have sandwiches, with Parma ham, Parmesan, Focaccia, and Ciabatta. Fruit compotes and Pastries. Many would say that this one is their favorite place, primarily because they have Wi-Fi.
If you need information about flights and baggage you can get assistance in the central hall, for withdrawal and currency exchange, there is an office and many cash machine available also in the central hall. The mall of the airport has a wide range of shops, which include jewelers, clothing stores, a mobile phone store and perfumery.
Even if the airport is not as big as it seems, you will probably need for assistance, it looks more like a maze than an real airport and you don’t have a lot of people ready to help you at night, almost everything is closed, and the rest of people may be asleep!

I think you will find that your choices are plenty when hiring a vehicle out of the facility. Mini's, Compacts, SUV's, Mercedes Luxury, and Minivans all line the parking lot at the Lyon car rental facility. One word of caution, however. The more expensive the vehicle, the more frequently out-of-stock the airport car rental facility is. Pre-book, and be safe.
