Lodz Airport (LCJ) is just outside of the city 6 km away. It's been upgraded in recent years to accommodate many of the low cost airlines offering many destinations throughout Europe. It can handle up to 300,000 passengers annually.
It has just recently been named the Wladyslaw Reymont Airport in honor of the famous Nobel Prize Polish Writer. Passenger traffic was recently restarted in the 90's and it is a small airport with limited passenger capacity.
Lodz Airport Car Rental.....
Driving your own car is always a great idea to see the sights on your own time and pace. Car Rental companies at the Lodz Airport include Avis, Europcar, Hertz and Speed. Each company is situated in Terminal 2 right next to the exit. After arriving on your airplane you will encounter an information desk before getting to the car rental desks.
To get to the city center of Lodz, you'll find that the city center is about 7.5 Km from the airport and it takes approximately 20 -25 minutes to reach it by rental car.
Make your way out of the airport and get on Generata Stanislawa Maczka going toward Pienista. Turn right on Pienista. The surrounding area is countryside and rural communities. It's very flat country and you can actually see the tall buildings from the city even from this distance. At the turning circle exit off onto Aleja Generala Zygmunta Waltera-Janke. This will be the first exit.
Aleja Generala Zygmunta Waltera-Janke turns into Aleja ksiedza Biskupa Wladyslawa Bandurskiego. This goes on for 1.8 km which then turns into Aleja Adama Mickiewicza for another 1.5 km. Keep going and you'll soon enter the center of the city.
Note that Poland has incredibly strict drinking-driving laws. In fact the legal limit is .02% (five times less than the .1% formerly used in the U.S. So avoid having even one beer before driving or you may find yourself in a Polish Pokey somewhere. Also, Polish roads are notoriously bad. Often you will find yourself on one-lane roads with a farm tractor in your way. So, be warned.

Things To Do in Lodz in Your Rental Car.....
Lodz is the third biggest city in Poland. With a population of nearly 800,000 it's around 135 km south of Warsaw. The name itself is literally translated "boat". It boast one of the largest city parks in all of Europe( Lagiewniki) and also has the Muzeum Sztuki, which possesses some of the best modern art in Poland.
Piotrkowska Street is the main attraction of the city. The street itself spans south to north more than 5 km. This makes it among the longest commerce streets in the world with many of the buildings being renovated that date back to the nineteenth century.
You can also go to Lunapark, an amusement park with many attractions. The city also has a zoo and botanical gardens. And shopping is available at the Manufaktura, which is a vast mall inside of a restored building of the 19th century.
In addition, in Lodz you'll find the National Film School, which has become one of the most well known institutes of higher education in the region.
