Leeds Bradford Airport Car Rental

Leeds Bradford Airport Basics.....

The Leeds Bradford Airport started about 80 years ago as the Yeadon Aerodrome.  Over the years, multiple changes and renovations has brought the airport to where it is today - a thriving little airport that services between 2 and 3 million passengers per year.  Most of the patronage comes from the local area, or is traveling to the local area - including the towns of Leeds and Bradford.

Leeds Bradford Airport Car Rental.....

Inside the primary terminal building sit four car rental companies - including Hertz, Europcar, Enterprise, and Avis.  Each of these companies has a desk in the arrivals area, not far from the baggage reclaim carousels.  Actual vehicles are located on the airport grounds, so an off-site shuttle is not needed here.  After picking up your baggage, simply exit out the front of the terminal, and walk to your right down the sidewalk about 200 meters.  Car rental signs will be posted, so follow them to the car rental park near Whitehouse Lane.

When exiting the airport area in your rental car, you will need to turn left out of the car park area and drive back towards the road in front of the terminal to exit.  Follow signs all the way as you curve around and enter a roundabout on Whitehouse Lane.  We will walk you thru the directions for traveling from the airport to both Leeds and Bradford below.  Both instructions begin at the roundabout at the airport entrance.

Leeds - Although there are shorter ways to get to Leeds from the airport, the quickest way is to travel left out of the airport when getting to the roundabout.  After driving West about 300 km, you will approach another roundabout.  Take the third exit on it - a green sign will be marked to Harrogate (A658) - that's the road you want so take this road for about 3 km until you approach Leeds Road (A660) towards Bramhope.  Drive about 12.3 km on this road into Leeds.  To return to the airport from Leeds, simply reverse the directions and travel back.

Bradford - As in the directions above, you will travel left at the roundabout and drive about 300 km to the next traffic circle.  However to get to Bradford, you will take the first exit to the left and drive on Victoria Avenue underneath the overpass (this is actual part of the Leeds Airport runway).  You will drive on this road for about 1.3 km, then begin to watch for little green sign directing you to turn right onto A658.  Right after the sign, you will go thru a stoplight, then take the next right.  This is A658 - on the corner of this turn-off is a little WCF service station.  Drive for about 9.3 km on A658 towards the center of Bradford.

Most (if not all) rental car companies offer a full-full fuel policy.  This simply means that you will pick up your rental car with a full tank, and you should return the rental car with a full tank.  Therefore, it will be better for you financially for you to re-fill your rental car fuel tank before taking the car back to the airport.  To do so, we generally recommend that you re-fill at the WCF service station if coming back from Bradford.  Remember that it will be at the end of A658.  If coming back from Leeds, there is a service station about 6-8 km out of Leeds on A660 (Otley Road - see picture of Woodhouse Moor below) traveling back to the airport.  The fueling station is an ESSO, and is on the right-hand side of the road.

Hotels and Restaurants Near the Leeds Bradford Airport.....

After hopping in your rental car, you will travel to the Premier Inn via the same directions as if traveling to the town of Bradford.  After hopping on A658 (Victoria Avenue), you will travel about 1.1 km from the second roundabout (the first one being at the airport exit) towards Bradford and the hotel will be on the left-hand side near a bus stop.  You will need to turn left at a stop light to access the hotel.  The service is great and the rooms are clean.  There is a Travelodge closer to the airport, but this is the best place to stay near the airport.
One of the reasons this is true is that there is a fantastic fish and chips restaurant within walking distance - right across the road.  The restaurant is called Murgatoyds, or Billy Murgs.  You can pick up some of the best fish and chips in the UK here and not even have to get in your rental car.  Start with a Yorkshire pudding and finish with a coffee or tea.  You won't be disappointed.
