Larnaca Cyprus Airport Car Rental

Larnaca Airport Basics.....

The Cyprus Tourism agency advertises Cyprus as “Fun in the Sun” and it is correct!  Cyprus is the ideal destination for sunbathing at the beaches, clubbing and much more.

The main entry to the country is through Larnaca international airport.  Larnaca is a very modern airport.  In fact, the new airport was only opened a couple of years ago (before that the old Larnaca airport was used).  Once you land and you transfer to the terminal you will have to pass through immigration.  If you are a European Union or Swiss citizen the immigration process will not take more than 5 minutes.  If you’re not; the immigration line will proceed slower but will never take more than 10-15 minutes depending on how many flights have landed.

Larnaca Airport Car Rental.....

There are various car rental companies available at the Larnaca Airport in Cyprus.  These currently include Petsas, Europcar, Sixt, Avis and Thames Rent-A-Car.  All are fine companies and are authorized by the Larnaca Airport as quality companies providing good services to their passengers.  All rental car desks are situated in the baggage claim area (just like the rest of them) in the arrivals area of the terminal.

Getting out of the Larnaca Airport is not too difficult.  There is essentially a large, one-way loop that surrounds the parking areas. So, after going around a traffic circle (or roundabout), good signage will point you to the A3 Motorway.  This road connects the Larnaca Airport to Ayia Napa a party town near the East border of the island.  So, if your final destination is the Ayia Napa, you will exit on A3 and continue on the motorway for about 56 km.

                                         Directions to Nicosia...

If traveling to the Nicosia area, you will exit via the A3, but will merge off of the A3 near Aradippou and onto the A2, then merging into the A1, which runs all of the way into the area of Nicosia.  Total estimated travel distance is about 50 km.

                                         Directions to Larnaca...

If you are traveling in your rental car to the city of Larnaca from the airport, you will exit via the A3 again and use the roundabout to travel Northeast on B4.  At the traffic circle, travel on  Αρτέμιδος, or Artemis towards Larnaca.  Continue North for about 4 km, until you enter into the city of Larnaca.  Below is a picture traveling out of the Larnaca Airport in Cyprus.

Larnaca Airport Amenities.....

Once you’ve cleared immigration you go into the baggage claim area which contains a small number of belts and with the help of the giant information screens finding your belt will be made very simple.  In the same room as the baggage claim are small duty free gift shops to buy last second gifts in case you’re visiting someone in Cyprus and forgot to buy something an ATM machine and a small bank windows are also located in the same room.  It is recommended that you have a 2 euro coin with you as you will need one to ‘rent’ a baggage trolley   Upon exit of the baggage claim area you go through customs.  If you go through the green “nothing to declare” corridor you will just pass to the exit.  Once you exit to the public sector of the arrivals hall right in front of you will see many car rental booths which includes most of the European car rentals (Hertz, Budget etc.).  Shuttle services are also offered in the same area as the car rentals.  The shuttles run between the airport and all major cities of Cyprus.  On the opposite side of the arrivals hall you can find a nice café to relax and drink a coffee before exiting to the city or you can simply take one coffee to go!

When departing from Larnaca airport feel free to arrive earlier and grab something to eat before even passing through check in!  There is a very nice (but expensive!) restaurant that offers a huge variety of quality food which is also near the airport wall (which in this airport’s case is a glass wall) which gives you a nice view of many different aircraft and airlines.  Once you have checked in and you have passed emigration you reach the airport duty-free area where you can find most of the things you are looking for including Travel accessories, Music, Electronics, Cypriot Souvenirs, Alcohol, Toys and many more.  The cafeteria also has a huge variety of food: From Italian to Greek to Japanese!

If you are a member of Star Alliance Gold or are flying business or first class you will have lounge access to the exclusive lounges on the second floor of the airport.  The stairs are located to the left after emigration.

Larnaca Airport Car Rental Choices.....

You should have plenty of choices available as to what types of cars are available for hire.  These, of course, will include compacts, standards, economy, and regular size vehicles.  Often you may be able to hire a luxury car or minivan as well.  These types of vehicles, however, typically require a little more in terms of advance notice than basic cars do.
