Hamburg Airport Car Rental and Driving Guide.....

Seeing Hamburg and the surrounding area is fun by car. You can see the sites when you want on your own time. Car rentals include Avis, Hertz, Europcar, SIxt and Terstappen.  Each of these companies occupy a desk in Terminal 2, near the exit of the terminal.  All of the cars are located on the premisi and can be picked up and dropped off at the parking lot across the way from the P5 parking area.

The trip to Hamburg is around 10 km from the airport and a 20 to 30 minute drive by rental car.

After picking up your rental get on Flughafenstraße and stay on this road as it then turns into Alsterkrugchaussee/B433.  You will be crossing some big intersections and you want to make a right on Zeppelinstraße/B433.  On he far left side of the road will be a Phillips building.  Drive this road for approximately 4.2 km.

Then you are going to merge left at the fork onto Tarpenbekstraße/B433.  There will be a yellow / white signthat says Altona Eimsbuttal on the bottom and Centrum (which indicated the Hamburg City Center).  Veer left and continue straight on Lenhartzstraße and turns into Eppendorfer Baum for a few hundred meters.  This road will bend around to the left and you will then be called Eppendorfer Baum - drive on it for about 500 km until you come to a roundabout (sometimes referred to as a traffic circle).

After going about halfway around the traffic circle, you will turn right.  Watch for the blue and white sign, again directing you to Centrum, or Hamburg city center.  Take this road into the heart of Hamburg.

When returning your vehicle, you will essentially reverse the directions above and travel back the same way you came to Hamburg.  You will want to re-fuel your rental car before returning and to do so, we recommend a Shell Petrol filling station on the left hand side of the B433 just before getting back to the airport.  You may have noticed the service station when leaving the airport, traveling to Hamburg on the right-hand side.

Types of Rental Vehicles Available at the Hamburg Airport.....

In addition to basic economy cars - Luxury cars, economy cars, minivans and SUV's are all waiting for you at the Hamburg Airport.  There's always a large quantity of car rentals at the airport, but we don't recommend that you test it.  Book early and make sure that you secure the car that you're looking for.

Also, consider a GPS - especially if you're not familiar with the Hamburg area.  There are a lot of twists and turns and options await with every kilometer.  I don't know that I've ever heard of anyone regretting renting a GPS when booking a rental car.  Finally, we want you to know how much we appreciate your visiting our site.  We know there are a lot of car rental options out there, but we're glad you chose to visit us and hopefully, rent with us as well.
