Friedrichshafen Airport Car Rentals
Friedrichshafen Airport (FDH) is around 3 km outside of Friedrichshafen and is the third largest airport in the region. It has served more than 600,000 passengers and it's alternate name is the Bodensee Airport.
Interestingly, this airport has been around for awhile and the first Zeppelin flights were scheduled from this airport before relocating to Frankfurt/Zeppelinheim. Friedrichshafen is known as a university town with a population of 58,000. It's located in the south of Germany near the Austria and Switzerland border. 
It's always better to get around by car for convenience and going at your own pace. The companies include Avis, Alamo, Hertz, Europcar, Jakobi, Hertz, National Car Rental and Sixt. Each of the car rental companies' desk is situated right near the terminal exit. After checking with the car rental company of your choice you will walk (or be shuttled) to your car that sits on the airport premisis. The Car Rental Center (Mietwagen) is situated at the P6 area between parking lots P3 and P1 at the East side of the terminal.
To get to the city of Friedrichshafen is very easy and the airport is very close to the city. After picking your car up at the car pavilion, head out on Am Flugplatz/K7791. Then make a right on onto K7728 and follow this road for 2.2 km. You're going to go through one turning circle during this segment and K7728 turns into Mühlöschstraße and continue following this road. You'll approach another turning circle and from this point you have many possibilities to go anywhere you want around town. See picture of City Center below.

The airport also offers tours as well as their Artist's Platform that has many great works of art on display in the airport. Free wireless LAN is available so you can stay in communication with those through email and the Internet. The airport has a hotspot provided by T-Mobile for fast surfing wirelessly from your laptop.
Best Western Hotel Goldenes Rad - The hotel offers an excellent view of Lake Constance, a modern spa and gourmet cuisine. It's right next to the Zeppelin Museum and train station. Each apartment and room is very spacious and has a minibar, free Wi-Fi, satellite TV. The restaurant is one of the best in the region endorsed by the Gault Millau guide. It serves fish, specialties from the region and fine wines. During better weather, you can sit outside on the terrace for your enjoyment. Bike rentals and a sauna are available as well as a relaxation room with a fireplace. Car rental distance is just a few kilometers away.
Hotel City Krone - The four star hotel is located near Lake Constance. There are great views from the rooms, sauna, an indoor pool as well as Free Wi-Fi. Each room is decorated with warm colors and have a sitting area, minibar and satellite TV. All bathrooms are private and come with a hairdryer. Breakfast and dinner are served daily. The morning buffet breakfast is always popular as well as the German dishes served in the evenings. Of course, a hotel isn't complete without a bar and you can get exotic cocktails. Getting back to the airport from Friedrichshafen isn't difficult either. Just reverse the directions above. Also, remember to re-fuel the rental vehicle before returning the car to the airport. This will save you a little bit of money overall.

Car Rental Attractions in Friedrichshafen.....
- Step up the observation-tower -This prominent observation tower gives excellent views of Lake Konstanz and the Swiss Mountains.
- Visit the Dornier-museum - The Museum has some of the most interesting and unique aircraft in the world. If the plane itself isn't on display, there are plenty of pictures and smaller scale models for fun and interest.
- Old crane of 1830 - An old 1830 crane that was utilized to unload salt ships back in those days. It's been restored and it can be found on beach boulevard in between the restaurants and gardens.
- Zeppelin-museum - You will find many great artworks such as sculptures, paintings and also medieval alters. There's so much to see at this museum including many original pictures and information about everything that had to do with the construction of the Zeppelins. See picture below.
