Faro Airport Car Rental
The Faro Airport (FAO) is only 2.6 km outside of the city of Faro. The airport handles around 5.5 million passengers per year with it getting busier during the summer. Around 5.4 million passengers used Faro in 2008. The city of Faro is situated in southern Portugal and has a population of around 40,000 residents. 
Don't get caught using public transportation. See the sights with your very own rental car. The airport provides you with car rental companies to choose from such as Avis, Budget, Europcar, Sixt, Hertz, and Goldcar. These companies' desks are siutated near the entrance/exit wall on your way out of the terminal. They are located right across from baggage claim 1 & 2. The actual rental vehicles are sitting right next to the terminal, so it will be a short walk to get to your rental vehicle.
To get to Faro, you will find that the city of Faro is approximately 6 km and a 12-20 minute drive from the airport. After picking up the car you want to start heading out of the airport. Follow the road around to the left and going around the parking lot to get on N125-10. Follow this road for 2.6 km. Make a right to get on the ramp going towards Faro. There will be industrial buildings to the left as you turn. You will merge onto IC4 and go for another kilometer.
You'll approach a turning circle and you want to take the second exit to get on Estr. 125. You'll also see a big building to the right of the highway right after the circle. Keep going and right at the building I mentioned, there will be another turning circle. You want to go right through it. Follow this for another kilometer. Y ou will be driving farther into the city and at the next turning circle, take the first exit on R. Gomes Freire.
Then make a left on R. Miguel Bombarda and as you pass a long building on the left side of the road make a right onto R. Gil Eanes. Then make a left on Av. da República. At the turning circle take the second right onto Jardim Manuel Bívar. At this point you are in the center of the city.
To get back to the airport, you will basically reverse the directions above to the airport. 
Hotel Eva - Hotel Eva is 6 miles from the airport and features a fitness center and a roof top pool. You have access to a Turkish bath as well as a sauna. The rooms have a minibar, work desk and some have private balconies, with great views of the nearby national park or the marina. The restaurant offers local dishes and also provides room service if needed. The pool bar serves all of your favorite drinks and exotic cocktails. The Day Spa offers a complete line of beauty and massage treatments. Also, on the property is a hair salon and laundry service for your convenience. If you like to shop, the Santo Antonio Mall is only a 2 minute walk from the hotel.
Hotel Faro - The Hotel Faro over looks the Ria Formosa Park and the marina. All rooms have plenty of room with modern furnishings. Select rooms have sitting areas and private balconies. The hotel restaurant has great view and a relaxing atmosphere from the rooftop serving Portuguese dishes. The hotel is close to all the main sites and is also a 4 mile drive from the airport.
Best Western Hotel Dom Bernardo - An easy walk to shopping and the marina, the Best Western offers a lot of amenities. Each room has satellite TV, free Internet, air conditioning, safe, minibar, and private bathrooms that include shampoo and lotions. In addition, all rooms have river or city views. A buffet breakfast is served everyday with a variety of cake, cereal, and breads. Also, there are many bars and restaurants that are easy walking distance from the hotel. The bar has many drinks as well as pool tables to have some fun and relax after a long day. There's also photocopying, fax and laundry services available.
The airport can make your stay waiting for your flight much more enjoyable with shopping and dining, however be warned, food here is expensive! Burgers are being reported at over 12 Euros. Everything from a Mini to a 7-seat (or 8-seater) minibus is available here. This would also include luxury cars, station wagons, and economy cars as well. One of the really neat things is that hiring a car out of the Faro Airport can be very cheap. Very small compact cars can run less than 10 Euros per day. That can make your traveling thru the Faro are very inexpensive.
