Erfurt-Weimar Airport Car Rental - Erfurt Flughafen Car Hire
The Erfurt-Weimar Airport (ERF) is a national airport serving the region. Erfurt is situated in the southern portion of the Thuringian Basin in a broad valley of the Gera River. On the south side the Steigerwald forest surrounds this part of the city. It has a population of over 500,000. 
It's time to enjoy your trip via a rental car. Car rental agencies at the airport include Avis, Hertz and Sixt. There are two terminal areas, aptly named A & B. The car hire desks are situated right between the two.
Driving to Erfurt: Erfurt is around 7 km away from car and takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get there. You want to head out of the airport and get on Binderlebener Landstraße. Follow it and make a left on Flughafenstraße/K14. Make a right on Orionstraße and then a left on Hersfelder Straße. Hersfelder Straße turns into Binderslebener Landstraße/K14 and you want to follow this for 2 km. Stay on Binderslebener Landstraße/L1043 and follow it for another 1 km. Binderslebener Landstraße/L1043 turns into Biereyestraße. Make a right on Gutenbergstraße and then another right on Blumenstraße. Make a left onto Moritzwallstraße and this street turns into Schlüterstraße. Make sure you stay to the right to stay on Schlüterstraße and then take the first right onto Magdeburger Allee. Magdeburger Allee tuns into Johannesstraße and then make a left on Juri-Gagarin-Ring. At this point you are in the center of town.
Driving to Weimar: Weimar is on the other side of Erfurt, so you your trip will take a little longer. Follow the directions above until you approach the Heinrichstraße (B4). Turn right on it. Follow the B4 for a few hundred meters and then turn right on Alfred-Hess-Straße/Bonifaciusstraße/B4/B7 for about 1 km. Go left on Steigerstraße/B4/B7 and continue non for about 21 km into the Weimar area.
When returning your rental car, be sure to fill up at a fueling station before returning to the airport. This will save you a little money on your overall rental bill.
The airport has an airshop that is in terminal B where you can purchase all the items you need for your travels like magazines, newspapers, and also snacks and drinks while you are waiting for your flight.
Pullman Erfurt am Dom - A 5 star hotel situated in the historic quarter of Erfurt. Rooms have air conditioning, bathtub, shower, cosmetic mirror, satellite TV. They are very elegant rooms with a fee spa area. The restaurant serves international and regional dishes with a variety of drinks from the hotel bar. They offer a full spa at the day spa which has a steam room, jacuzzi and sauna and also a fitness area.
IBB Hotel Erfurt - The hotel is near the Kramer bridge in the center of the historic area. The hotel is a medieval themed guest house that was transformed into the present hotel for guests. Rooms have air conditioning and other popular amenities. The property has a restaurant that is popular by the locals for it's excellent food and also has a very nice beer garden. The hotel spa can offer a full menu of different massages as well as cosmetic beauty treatments.
Mercure Hotel Erfurt Altstadt - A four star hotel close to the Krämerbrücke Bridge with great spa facilities and a historic restaurant that serves Thuringian cuisine. Rooms have Wi-Fi, minibar, satellite TV. In addition to the full service spa, there's also a solarium, jacuzzi and steam room for guest use. The restaurant serves international and local dishes and during the summer can be enjoyed on the terrace.
The city is known as a medieval city center. It has two prominent churches, the Severikirche and Erfurt Cathedral (see picture below) that stand right by each other. Tourists can access both church towers and is a great way to get an excellent view of the city and surrounding areas.
The Krämerbrück is a bridge that crosses the Gera River that is quite popular to see. The bridge has 32 buildings on it in use and 2 churches that are on each end that are still in use. In addition, an old monastery named the Augustinerkloster is a great site.
Erfurt is the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach and there's a new opera house that is the home of the Philharmonic Orchestra and Erfurt Theater. 
All the regulars are here. SUV's, luxury cars, economy cars, diesels and gasoline, and everything in between. Make sure to reserve early if renting a car at the Weimar Airport. As with all airports, the rental car inventory doesn't last forever, especially during peak seasons, or when a lot of folks are traveling into the area.
