East Midlands Airport Car Rental

East Midlands Airport Basics.....

The East Midlands Airport currently moves over 4 million passengers per year.  Situated near Derby, Nottingham and Leicester, the airport's busiest routes are actually to and from Spain, but services airports all over Europe.

East Midlands Airport Car Rental.....

Car Rental companies located at the airport include Thrifty, Sixt, Europcar, National, Dollar, Budget, Alamo, Hertz and Avis.  Most of these have a presence in the arrivals area near the exit.  After picking up your baggage, you will see many of these car rental agents nearby.

Actual rental cars are located on the airport premises (walk out of the front of the terminal and veer to your left, the cars are in a lot close to the terminal) - get with your agent to find the exact location of your rental car.  For those arriving into the East Midlands Airport, there are a variety of eventual car rental destinations and directions.  We will attempt to list a few here.

East Midlands Airport to Derby - The trip from the airport to Derby via rental car normally takes about 20 minutes total.  Head out of the airport and turn left on Ashby Road (First T you come to with Stoplights).  Drive about 8/10ths of one km and veer left towards M1.  You'll see the green sign here at the fork.  After about 1.5 km, you'll merge left onto M1.  Again, watch for signs for Derby.  Next travel about 5 km on M1, and after the overpass, veer left and the turn left, exiting onto A52.  Drive about 7 km into Derby.

East Midlands Airport to Nottingham - Travel out Ashby like above and veer left towards M1, like above as well.  Stay on A453 North for about 9.5 km. and you will go left around a corner and merge into A52.  Travel on this road for about 1.3 km, and exit left down a hill on A6005 (watch for directions painted on the road).  After exiting down the hill, you will take the 3rd exit at the traffic circle onto Abbey St. into the Nottingham area.

East Midlands Airport to Leicester - Again, travel out on Ashby, but instead of traveling North at the traffic circle, you will go right and travel South as if traveling to London.  At this traffic circle, watch for signs directing you to Leicester.  Continue South for about 1.35 km and then merge into M1 and travel South for almost 13 km.  At junction 22, take the A50/A511 exit, then take the 1st exit onto A50 at the next traffic circle and travel into Leicester.

Airport Car Rental Return...

When returning your vehicle to the East Midlands Airport, you most likely will want to re-fill your fuel tank before returning to the airport.  At the traffic circle on your way back to the airport, you will see a shoot-off from the traffic circle.  Signage will posted near the traffic circle directing you to "services".  This is the traffic circle exit you will take to re-fuel.  A BP station will be visible soon from the turnoff.

Hotels Near the East Midlands Airport.....

Holiday Inn Express East Midlands Airport - Situated right off Ashby Road near the traffic circle just a few hundred meters from the airport road, the Holiday Inn Express makes a great choice for an overnight's stay.  Prices are normally very reasonable, and a breakfast is offered to boot.  If you eat before 6 am, I believe there's a 20% discount on the bill.  If you don't have a rental car, you can get a taxi to the airport for less than £6.  There aren't many restaurants or shopping centers near the hotel, as it's situated in a commercial park area.

Thistle East Midlands Airport - Probably the most positive thing about the Thistle Airport is the food.  Most folks report that the restaurant churns out some pretty tasty, well-presented food.  The hotel is actually within walking distance of the terminal.  It is close enough that many travelers turn in their rental car the night before flying out, and walk to the Thistle to get a good night's sleep.  Wake up, eat a good breakfast, and walk to the terminal in the morning ready for their flight.

East Midland Airport Car Rental Types.....

Various rental car types are available at the East Midlands Airport.  Mini car categories like the Peugeot 107 and economy cars like the Ford Fiesta dominate the overall list of cars rented from the East Midland Airport.  The prices for smaller cars is pretty comparable to smaller cars rented from other airport locations throughout the U.K.  Moving up to larger vehicles in the intermediate range (Toyota Avensis or similar) is possible with about a 50% increase in daily rental fees.  Transit vans, and cargo vans are a little more expensive than that, but they are usually available as well.  Also available are the 7-passenger or 9-passenger minivans suited for family travel.  These get a little pricier, but are not necessarily any more expensive here than at any other airport location.  Finally, luxury cars such as a Mercedes C Class or similar are generally able to be picked up too - albeit for a pretty decent sum of money.

Finally, we want to thank you for visiting our site.  We hope you learned something about hiring a car at the East Midlands Airport.  Come back anytime!
