Dusseldorf Airport Car Rental
Düsseldorf International Airport (DUS) is the third busiest airport in Germany and handles close to 19 million passengers per year. It's situated around 7 km from Dusseldorf and is the primary airport for Rhine-Ruhr region.
Dusseldorf is the capital of the Rhine-Ruhr region as well as North Rhine-Westphalia state. It's known for it's trade and fashion fairs and is home to several Fortune Global 500 companies. The city is culturally known for its fine art academies and every year during June, close to 5 million people visit the Rhine Funfair which is the biggest fair held by the city. Dusseldorf was surveyed as sixth worldwide in highest quality of living ranked by Mercer. 
You will have a large selection of rental cars to choose from at the Dusseldorf Airport including Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty and Sixt. The companies at the airport are situated in the Mietwagenzentrum (Car Rental Center) opposite the Airport Terminal. Crossing the street, you will be able to walk underneath a protected walkway.
Getting to Dusseldorf from the airport isn't difficult. Signage is pretty good and reliable, at least in our opinion. The drive to Dusseldorf is only 9 km by car and takes a quick 15 to 20 minutes to get to the heart of the city.
First, head out of the airport and stay to the left to get on the ramp toward A44. At the fork, continue left and follow the directional signs for A44/A3/A52/Oberhausen/Velbert/Köln/Essen and merge onto A44 . Follow this road for 3.8 km. Get off at the exit that is going toward A52/Düsseldorf. Follow this for 1.4 km. Then get on Nördlicher Zubringer/B1 and follow the highway for 2.6 km. Make a left on Grashofstraße/B7/B8. You'll see a large high rise building on the right side of the road as you're turning. After making the turn you want to take the 2nd right on Brehmstraße/B8 and follow this road for 3.5 km. At this point you are pretty much in the center of the city.
Returning the rental car back to the Dusseldorf Airport isn't that difficult either. Essentially reverse the directions above. Signage is very good - watch for green overhead signs once you get to the airport as they direct you to the proper place to return the car. One thing to remember - when you return the car on the airport motorway slip road to follow the first sign that points you to Abflug (which stands for departures), not Ankunft (which will take you back to the city). This is a common mistake. The next sign will say Mietwagen (which stands for Car Rental). Follow it to the airport.
We generally recommend that you re-fuel the rental vehicle before finally arriving at the car rental center. To do so, you will to travel to the Petrol Service station situated between the Car Rental Center and the P5 parking area. 
The airport really has something for everyone. Both international as well as regional cuisine can be found. If you want a snack, fast food, or even something more formal, it can be found. Sit-down restaurants included include Chalet, Cafeterio and the Caffe Ritazza.
There are more than 60 different shops located at the airport available everyday of the year. Sample a selection of the brands offered at the shopping mall.
Sheraton Düsseldorf Airport Hotel - This is a great 4 star hotel which is located right next to the airport above the P3 parking deck. You're right there at the airport with guest access to a fitness room available 24 hours a day and 2 restaurants. Each room is soundproof with an excellent view of the green rooftop terrace located at the hotel. Not only do they have two fine restaurants, but the lounge and bar is great to sit back and relax. The hotel has a business center with computers and free Wi-Fi for your convenience.
Maritim Hotel Düsseldorf - Another 4 star hotel with soundproofing and very elegant rooms. You have a direct connection to the airport by using the pedestrian bridge. Also with a full service spa, big indoor pool and 4 restaurants, you have comfort and a lot of variety. All rooms have a coffee/teas maker, bathrooms with a hairdryer, quality toiletries bathrobes and flat screened TV's. The restaurants serve traditional Rhineland, Mediterranean, and Sushi. There are also 2 bars on the property for your convenience and relaxation.
Altbier (see picture below of Albier in Dusseldorf Airport) has become well known in Dusseldorf. It's an old style beer which uses pre-lager brewing methods and a warm top fermenting process much like the pale ales of Britain. It's noted as a crisp clean beer. Presently there are 4 pubs that brew the Altbier on site and 3 out of the four are situated in Old Town.
Every year the largest cultural even takes place in November named Karneval. There's always a huge parade in the streets and it's it's also part of the Rhinelands traditional carnival festival.
