Dallas Fort Worth Airport Car Rental

Dallas DFW Airport Basics.....

The Dallas Fort Worth Airport is a very, very large airport.  The behemoth covers almost 30 square miles, employs over 60,000 folks with a payroll of almost 8 Billion dollars.    Almost 60 million folks were serviced in and out of airplanes throughout the year of 2010.  That computes to a daily passenger rate of nearly 160,000 people.  One important factoid about the Dallas Fort-Worth Airport is that every major American city can be gotten to via airplane within 4 hours.  That, I suppose, is what makes the Dallas airport so useful.  The DFW is considerably larger than its Dallas Love counterpart, but is actually a little further away from the city center.

Then proceed to the shuttle pick-up area at the bottom level of the terminal.  Hop on the shuttle and pick up your car.  The shuttle bus generally runs about every few minutes, so your wait shouldn't be too long.  When returning your rental car, just reverse these instructions.  Similarly, the shuttle returns to the airport every few minutes.  Shuttles run 24 hours per day, both directions.

After picking up your vehicle at the rental car facility, you will probably want to take a right and travel West on Rental Car Road.  Rental car road will 'T', and you will turn left.  Watch for blue signs directing you to the South Exit on TX-183/TX-360.  Merge into 97, traveling South.  Watch for overhead green signs, recommending that you stay left as you travel on 183 East.  Continue on 183 East at flows into I-35 East, and all the way into the Dallas City Center.  (See Picture Below, driving into downtown Dallas).

When returning you car, you will essentially reverse the directions above.  Notice the blue signs on planted near the road, directing rental car returners to various exits - especially after getting back to 97.  Right at the corner of Rental Car Road and Highway 97, there is a Shell service station.  This would be a great opportunity to buy fuel before returning your rental vehicle back to the airport rental car facility.  Notice the big, blue sign at the corner of Rental Car Road and Passport Drive, pointing back to the rental car return facility.

DFW Airport Hotels.....

There are two hotels that could be considered "on-site" airport hotels - The Grand Hyatt DFW and the Hyatt Regency DFW.  The Regency is generally considered less expensive - about 20% cheaper for most rooms.  It may not be quite as posh as the Grand Hyatt DFW, but if price is a consideration, then we generally recommend the Hyatt Regency DFW.  Most customers report some really nice views of the airport and the monster planes taking off and landing out of it.  To get to the hotel, just take the complimentary shuttle service both to and from the airport.
