Cleveland Airport Car Rental

Cleveland Airport Background…..

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is found nine miles southwest of the central business district of Cleveland. It is the largest airport in Ohio and the 39th largest airport in North America. The airport, founded in 1925, was the first municipally owned airport in the US as well as having the first air traffic control tower, first ground to air radio control and first airfield lighting system. It is also the first US airport to connect to the local transit system.

Departing Hopkins

In 2010 Cleveland Hopkins handled almost 9.5 million passengers. Daily the airport handles over 325 nonstop flights to over 825 destinations. It is the third largest hub for Continental Airlines. Improvements at the airport include restaurant and store renovations as well as a taxi service. There are also customer service areas and convenient on site parking.

Cleveland Airport Car Rental.....

Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty all have desks at the Cleveland-Hopkins airport.  Each company shares a common facility less than three miles away from the airport.  An every-day, all-day shuttle service is available to transport car rental customers to and from the airport.  So, regardless of your rental car company, the shuttle service will be available to move you between the two points.

You may find shuttles after by exiting near the baggage claim pickup thru door number five.  Unless a shuttle service is sitting outside, you most likely will be waiting with other folks to retrieve their rental cars.

From the car rental location on 19601 Maplewood Avenue near the airport, you will find that getting to the city center of Cleveland is not too difficult.  After picking your car up, you will drive East on Maplewood Avenue towards Rocky River Dr.  Turn left on Rocky River.  Drive about 8/10ths of a mile on Rocky River, then turn right on Puritas Avenue.  Drive about 1.1 miles on Puritas and hten turn left on W 150th Street.  Finally, merge into I-71 North and travel about 7 miles.  You will now be within striking distance of your final Cleveland destination.  When returning your vehicle, use the above directions in reverse to get back to the car rental park.

Upon returning your car, you should find several gas stations along Rocky River Dr., before entering the Car Rental Facility.  Fuel prices will generally be much cheaper if you do choose to fill up before returning.  We do know there is a Valero, a Marathon and a Flamingo Service station near the car park on Rocky River.

Other Airport Amenities…..

There are over 20 hotels within a 20 minute drive of the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Cleveland Hopkins also has the AIRMALL a collective of 47 stores (21 of which are locally owned and 29 of which are run by female or minorities). The AIRMALL pledges to charge regular mall prices for items which in many airport stores would be astronomical in comparison.  Security at the Cleveland Hopkins is similar to the rest.  Be patient and don't try to sneak anything in, or your item may end up on one of these boards.

Confiscated

The selection of restaurants is staggering. You can choose from old favorites like Subway, Bruegger’s Bagels, Dunkin Donuts and Auntie Anne’s Soft Pretzels. Don’t forget to partake of Cleveland’s own Great Lakes Bar and Brewing Company to take the edge off of a harrowing flight. Another Cleveland favorite Panini’s Bar and Grill has some of the best Italian food in the state.

If you have to get your shoe fix, you can hit Crocs. For books on a long flight don’t forget to stop by Hudson Booksellers. There are Hudson News Gates all over Cleveland Hopkins as well as in the AIRMALL. For those who don’t have enough time to hit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on their stay, there is a convenient Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum Store in the Main Terminal where you can purchase memorabilia.  Best of all there are multiple Charter One ATMs all over the terminal so you don’t have to walk across the terminal to find yourself standing in line behind 20 other people who are using the same singular ATM.

There are tons more amenities in the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to cater to almost every whim or desire when it comes to food or specialty shop.
