Charlotte Airport Car Rental

Charlotte Airport History.....

As of 2010, the total passenger count thru the Charlotte Airport totaled over 16 million in terms of regional and international passengers combined.  This number puts them just outside the top ten, in terms of overall traffic.  There is only one terminal, but there are 5 concourses and over 90 gates to funnel passenger traffic to and from airplanes.  Domestic carriers include US Airways, United, JetBlue, Delta, Continental, American and Airtran Airlines - which account for over 13 million of the 16 million passengers noted above.

Welcome to Charlotte, Charlotte International Airport, Charlotte, North Carolina

Charlotte Airport Car Rental.....

Car rental companies currently located at the Charlotte Airport include National, Hertz, Avis, Thrifty, Budget, Enterprise and Dollar.  Each company has a desk situated near the baggage claim area in the arrivals area.  After landing at the airport, you will be shuttled to Rental Car Road, right around the corner.  If traveling to Charlotte, you will exit left off of Rental Car Rd. to Old Down Road.  Follow the brown signs planted next to the road directing you out of the area.  Old Down Rd turns into Little Rock Road very soon.  Within a half-mile you will turn right on Andrew Jackson Highway and travel East.  Continue on this road for about 5 miles as enter the Charlotte City area.

If you're looking for some good fried chicken and onion rings, you might stop in at the Bar-B-Q King on Andrew Jackson Highway.  After about 3.2 miles after turning onto Andrew Jackson Highway, the Bar-B-Q King drive-in sits on the left hand side, traveling towards Charlotte.  It is not a sit-in restaurant.  Instead, it resembles a Sonic, 50 years ago.  The drive-in was featured on the show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, and features some of the best fried chicken you will ever eat.

When returning your vehicle from Charlotte, back to the Charlotte Douglas Airport, you essentially reverse the directions above.  Remember that re-fueling your rental car at a nearby gas station usually makes a lot of sense.  There is a gas station (Airport Express) at the corner of Andrew Jackson and Little Rock Road.

Airport Amenities.....

The Charlotte Airport may not have been your decision as much as simply a result of your travel plans. You may give some thought to other factors like security, accessibility, and the ease of the check-in. There are other seemingly minor factors that can influence your travel experience, like your time spent at the airport.  We counted at least 7 reasons to enjoy your trip through the Charlotte-Douglas Airport.

1. Southern “Front Porch” Rocking Chairs - Charlotte Airports’ signature white wooden rocking chairs are handcrafted rockers that add a “front porch” feel to the tree-lined boulevard, glass-enclosed Atrium of the main terminal. A rocking chair is the most comfortable chair to soothe your body, melt your stress away and relax the muscles in your lower back. Research shows that the spinal cord can only work in one direction. When the brain is sending messages down your spine to your legs to rock the chair, pain messages from your back up to your brain are blocked. The basic rocking movement of the chair provides pain relief for your lower back or simply provides a warm calming effect.
2. Enjoy Live Piano Music - While sitting in your “front porch” rocking chair, enjoy relaxing, inspiring and imaginative live piano music. The Charlotte Airport baby grand piano is passionately played by fellow travelers who fill the airport with classical melodies, tranquil pieces, or original compositions. The piano is located in the Atrium in front of the food court opposite the rocking chairs.  See picture below....
3. An Airport With A View - From the observation deck of the Charlotte Airport you can view the city skyline. The runway is parallel to the deck. You can watch, photograph or video-record a plane land on the runway framed by the city skyline.
4. Free Wi-Fi - An increasing number of large and hub airports offer free Wi-Fi. Charlotte Airport provides free Wi-Fi high speed internet access terminal wide as an amenity for travelers. Some areas are spotty but there are signs indicating hot spots where reception is better for connecting to the "CLTNET" network. Power outlets are located throughout the concourses and Atrium. Near Gate B10 and Gate C15 there are free charging stations with 20 outlets.
5. Public Accessible Business Center - Don’t have a Platinum Card or a million frequent flyer miles? Don’t worry. The Business Center, centrally located in the Charlotte Airport Atrium is open to everyone. It’s private and quiet. You can catch up on emails, use the notary service, conduct a meeting in the conference room, use their laminating service or simply get some work done.
6. Simple Hub and Spoke Layout - The simple layout of the hub and spoke design makes navigating the airport easy. Still can’t picture the layout? Think ‘octopus’ with only five limbs instead of eight.  The hub is the Atrium and the spokes are the 5 Concourses A - E. This design allows for easy central navigation as all Concourses are connected directly to the Atrium.
7. Ease of Moving - There are several moving walkways at the airport which makes moving down the long concourses easier. At the beginning of Concourse A, B, C & D there is a moving walkway.  The longest walkway, Concourse E, has three moving walkways. There is also a moving walkways between A/B and C/D/E areas. The entire Atrium can be trans-versed by moving walkways.

Find unique, local goods and purveyors. Yadkin Valley Wine Bar, located between Concourses D and E, catches the attention of regional and international travelers. Yadkin is located near Winston-Salem. A Yadkin label wine is comprised of wines made of a minimum 85 percent Yadkin grown grapes.  An impulse buy without buyers remorse.

Brookstone, located in the Atrium it is a great place to shop for the person who has everything, to pick up a last minute gift or just to check out all the unusual yet handy gadgets. Knowing that your hands are already full, Brookstone offers free wrapping and shipping from the airport location, and if you are looking for a quick fix of caffeine, Starbucks is open 24 hours in the baggage claim area.
