Calgary International Airport receives over 12 million people annually, making it the fourth busiest airport in Canada based on passenger traffic. There are 3 runways which are used for facilitating over 230,000 aircraft movements per year, making Calgary International Airport the 3rd busiest airport based on aircraft movements. 25 commercial airlines operate out of the airport including Air Canada and WestJet. Non-stop service is offered to major cities in Canada and the US, as well as locations in Central and South America, Europe and Asia. Since 1992, Calgary Airport Authority has been responsible for keeping the airport up to date and maintaining it as a world class facility. Upcoming projects include the addition of another runway to be operational in 2014, which will be the longest runway in Canada. An additional terminal for International flights is scheduled to be built by 2014.
The Rental Car Center is situated across from the Departures Terminal. You essentially walk out of the terminal departures terminal building (Near the B and C Terminals) and cross the road at the ground level. The rental car building will be right in front. Almost all car rental agencies work out of the Rental Car Center. There are also a couple of car rental companies that do NOT work out of the rental car center. They are referred to as "off-airport" rental car companies. Zoom and Discount Car Rental do not have desks set up within the Rental Car Center, yet they offer free shuttle to a nearby location for less expensive car rental out of the Calgary Airport. The pickup location for these shuttle services will be at Bus Bay #21.
Leaving the Calgary Airport with your rental car is not too difficult. Head North on Airport Rd, and watch for overhead signage that points towards the city center. Turn left at the light on Airport Trail NE W, and drive for about 8 km. Take the ramp at AB-2 S and drive into the city.
