Brisbane Airport Car Rental

Brisbane Airport Basics.....

The Brisbane Airport in Queensland Australia sits just a few kilometers from the coast of the Moreton Bay - and just over 100 km. from the uppermost corner of New South Wales.  The airport is quite large in terms of both the footprint of the facility and the passenger count.  Roughly 20 million passengers were moved via air in 2010, with steady increases over the years.  About three-quarters of those passengers were domestic movements, with the remainder customers using the Brisbane Airport for international travel.

Brisbane Airport Car Rental.....

Six car rental companies occupy space at the Brisbane Airport.  These include Hertz, Redspot, Europcar, Budget, Avis and Thrifty - and each of these maintain a position within both the International terminal and the Domestic terminal at the Brisbane Airport.  The two terminals at the Brisbane Airport (Domestic and International) are separated by about 2 km, so when running a car rental booking request on Eurocar Rental's booking engine, you will be given the option for either Domestic or International.  The terminals are independent of each other, each with their own car rental desks and car rental parking areas.  To move between the two terminals, the Airtrain, TBus and taxis are available.  Walking is also an option.

Inside the Domestic terminal each car rental company (except for Redspot) has a desk within both the Qantas and the Virgin Australia areas of the terminal.  Redspot has one desk located in the baggage claim area, centered between Qantas and Virgin Australia.

Within the International terminal, car rental desks are grouped together and are located near the exit/entry area.  Not far from the car rental desks are payphones, bathrooms and an ATM.

Leaving the airport facility for Brisbane is not tot difficult.  For both the Domestic terminal and the International terminal, you will leave on Airport Dr., or Moreton Drive (Moreton Drive actually merges into Airport Drive traveling West).

Traveling out of the airport area on Airport Drive and to Brisbane, watch for green overhead signs and green signs planted next to the road directing you to merge left to the city on Southern Cross Way.  Continue South for about 2 km until you exit left to Kingsford Smith Drive, on Highway 25.  Continue to watch for green signs pointing you to "City" via Highway 25.  Continue as far as you need to go.

When returning your rental car, we generally recommend that you return the same way, via Kingsford Smith Drive.  Turn left (North) on Southern Cross Way to the airport.  Watch for green signs, both overhead and on the side of the road.  There will be plenty of fueling stations on Kingsford Smith Drive for you to re-fuel your rental car before returning it to the Brisbane Airport.
Airport Amenities.....

Internet access is, of course, available in the Brisbane Terminals, but it's not free.  We do know that for $5 per hour, you can purchase an hour block of Wi-FI in the Qantas Terminal.

There are plenty of restaurants available for you at the Brisbane Airport.  On the domestic side, there is a pizza joint called Eagle Boys.  They assert that they use some high-quality ingredients on their pies.  Also, you might want to try Velluto.  A little pastry shop that serves some pretty good coffee, they say.

On the International side, you have several more options.  Try out the Red Rooster.  It's a self-proclaimed healthy option serving up chicken sandwiches, salads, subs and soft drinks.  Or you could try the Noodle Box Asian area.  They serve up stir-fry, rice and soups for those who are looking for something a little spicier.

As mentioned above, there are three options for moving between the International and the Domestic terminals (well, four if you count walking).  Here they are:

Aitran: Cost is 5 AUD per adult, and children travel free (up to 14 years of age).  No limit on number of children.

TBus:  The cost for TBus is also 5 AUD per adult. But children under 4 years of age travel free.  Departures to opposite terminal run about every 20 minutes.

Taxi:  You can find taxis in front of each terminal, awaiting travel to the opposite terminal.  Cost is roughly 15 AUD.

Hotels Near the Brisbane Airport.....

As you exit the Brisbane Airport in your newly hired car, the nearest hotel to the airport facility is the Novotel.  Novotel considers themselves to be a 'mid-scale' hotel.  Maybe, but the prices don't really reflect 'mid-scale'.  In fact, they are downright expensive.

Exiting out of the airport area on Airport Road, you will exit on Lakeside Rd.  Going thru the first traffic circle you will see the Novotel Hotel on the right in front of you.  Across from the Novotel is a small shopping center for your convenience.
