Bodo Airport Car Rental

Bodo Airport Basics.....

Bodo Airport (BOO) has a single runway and is located south of the city.  Although it is a commercial facility, it shares it's space with the air force.  In fact, it's the main base for air operations for the military.  Adjacent to the airport is the Norwegian Aviation Museum housed in a building shaped like a propeller and is one of the national museums of Norway.  It's a great place to view many military aircraft such as the Supermarine Spitfire, Lockheed U-2 and the Gloster Gladiator.  There are also many commercial aircraft on display.

Bodo is the gateway to the artic and has many great places to see and visit. It's become a modern city that is integrated with the airport for ultimate convenience. There are so many things to do from exploring, culture, cuisine and history. You have access to sheltered fjords, huge mountains, white sand beaches, national parks and thousands of islands.

Bodo Airport Car Rental.....

A rental car makes it so much easier to get around and do what you want on your own schedule.  Bodo has 5 rental agencies to choose from to pick-up and drop-off and is right next to the main terminal.  The rental companies include Sixt, Hertz, Europcar, Budget and Avis.

When driving your rental car to Bodo, you'll find that it's a very easy drive to Bodo from the airport. A short 2.4 km or around 10 minutes and you're there.

First, you will head your way out of the airport and make a right on Olav V gate/Rv80.  This is really the only road near the airport, running right in front of the terminal.  Follow Olav V gate/Rv80 until you get to a traffic circle.  Make sure you  take the third exit onto Fridtjof Nansens vei.  Follow this road along until you reach another traffic circle and make a turn on the first exit on Hålogalands.  There will be a white building facade on the right side of the street.  This will actually be the Aspmyra Stadion, a football stadium in Bodo (see picture below inside the stadium).  Go down a ways and make a left on Jordbruksveien.  You will have gone too far if you pass a series of white apartment buildings on the right side of the road.  You'll be in the heart of the town which is actually a residential area of the city. It really is very easy to make your way through town and find what you're looking for.

When traveling back to the airport, you will want to re-fuel before returning.  Doing so will help to save a little in fuel savings.  There is no fueling service station right at the airport (that we know of), so we generally recommend re-fueling in the town of Bodo, especially since it's so close to the airport.

Bodo Airport Amenities.....

There are a few shops and dining to make your wait more pleasant.  There is a cafe, pub and a kiosk to meet your needs.  A lot of food and snacks are available from salads, pizza, baguettes and stews.  Of course there is always coffee and drinks to help you relax.  The kiosk carries many of the items you need for traveling as well as newspapers, foreign magazines, toys and souvenirs.  Also, you can always visit the duty free shop during international arrivals and departures and it is open 24 hours a day.

An ATM is available on the ground floor between the baggage claim areas and the restrooms as well as wireless Internet at the airport for your convenience.  A very unique service is a shower at the airport.  For 50 NOK, you can take a refreshing shower for up to 30 minutes.  Located on the first floor next to the restrooms, it's a great way to freshen up between flights.  You can even buy disposable towels if needed for 20 NOK.

Other attractions in the area include the driving up Kirkeveien/Rv834 to Kjerringøy, an old trading post which was the inspiration of many books by Knut Hamsun.  The total trip from the airport takes less than an hour.  Also, be sure to check out Saltstraumen which is the strongest tidal current on the planet and Svartisen, the biggest glacier in the Northern part of Scandinavia.  Regardless of the popularity of these major attractions that draw many thousands of tourists a year, the area is still uncrowded and very pleasant.
