Birmingham Airport Car Rental

Birmingham Airport Basics.....

The Birmingham Airport in England ranks currently as the 7th biggest airport in terms of passengers serviced annually.  In 2008, the airport reached its height in terms of volume, but the global recession that occurred at the end of that year has continued to slow traffic thru the West Midlands, England international airport.  The airport as it is know now was opened in 1984.  It has grown via restructuring over the last 20-30 years, and was voted as the best airport in its category in 2007.

Birmingham Airport Car Rental.....

There are currently six global car rental firms situated in the terminal building.  Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and National each operate desks in the arrivals area of the terminal.  The car parks are within walking distance of the car rental counters.

For those folks heading to the city of Birmingham in their rental car, we generally recommend the following driving directions.  These directions may take a couple of minutes longer, but they're a little easier especially for first-time Birmingham travelers.  As you travel South out of the Birmingham Airport area on Vanguard Road, Vanguard eventually turns into Airport Way.  On the first traffic circle, hug left.  Approaching the second traffic circle, drive cautiously and watch for white signs (also note the smaller green signs, planted low to the ground) pointing you toward Birmingham traveling East via the Bickenhill Ln.  Approach the third traffic circle and travel South on Bickenhill Ln.  As you enter the fourth traffic circle, watch for a green sign pointing you towards Coventry Rd, A45.  This road, Coventry Rd, will take you right into the heart of Birmingham.

Returning your rental car back to the Birmingham airport, you will essentially travel the same direction, only in reverse.  Use Coventry Road, traveling East.  Exit toward Marston Green about 13 km out of the Birmingham City Centre.  Passing underneath an overpass, you'll notice signage above directing you to the Airport Passenger Terminals.  Watch for signs thru the next three traffic circles (the same ones you left on) as you approach Airport Way.  Remember to refuel in Birmingham before you leave the city.  There is probably not a closer place to refuel your rental car before returning.

Airport Amenities.....

For starters, the feature that travelers just features many Birmingham Airport passengers love is the free Wi-Fi in both terminal areas.  Shopping is pretty good in the Birmingham Airport as well.  In the departure area, shops like Accessorize, Austin Reed, and WorldDutyFree each have shops set up.  In the arrivals area you might be interested in Spar and M & S Simply Food, a food shopping store selling fruits, vegetables, and salads on the go.

Restaurants in the departures area of the Birmingham Airport include Blanc et Noir Champagne and Wine Bar and the Burger King and Costa.  Other areas located within the airport include Estpresso, Frankie and Benny's and Pret A Manger, serving high quality sandwiches.

Wonderfully, there are hotel options for staying the night at the Birmingham Airport.  Many more hotels exist off the airport premises, but relatively near the airport.  You may find that others are worth the drive.  Three choices exist right at the airport:

Ibis: +44 121 780 5800 - The Ibis is situated about 1,000 feet away from the front of Terminals 1 and 2.  Maybe a little more expensive than the Etap.
Etap: +44 121 780 5858 - Also situated near the Front of Terminal 1, the Etap is generally regarded as the cheapest of the three.
Novatel: +44 121 782 7000 - This is a four-star hotel, located near the front of the terminal as well.  Probably the most expensive of the three.
