Billy Bishop Airport Car Rental

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Background…

The Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport has sat on the Toronto Islands since the 1930s. The construction of the airport was hotly debated to the point that construction was stopped and started numerous times. It wasn’t finally completed until the mayor of Toronto at the time, whom had been against its construction, died. Billy Bishop was supposed to be the main airport in Toronto, but the Malton Airport that was built at the same time as a secondary location ended up becoming Toronto Pearson International.

Toronto was so dead-set on making Billy Bishop Airport the main Toronto airport that it sold Malton Airport to the Canadian government in order to acquire the funds to expanded Billy Bishop Airport in 1962. The airport saw a long period of decline from the 1970s to the 2000s and debate raged between the Toronto community and politicians over whether or not the airport should be closed. Fortunately, the Toronto Port Authority received control of the airport’s operations in 2000 and have been reviving it ever since.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Car Rentals…

No car rental companies operate directly out of the airport. However, seven of the eight major international rental car companies in North America have locations not far from the airport. In order to rent from Avis, Enterprise, Budget, National, Thrifty, Hertz or Alamo, just search for the phone number for the location closest to the airport or go to the company’s official website and make your reservation. When you make your reservation you can ask for a car to pick you up from the airport whenever your plane arrives and the company you choose to work with will send you one free of charge.

When you fly into Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport you’re essentially landing in Downtown Toronto. You’ll be in the heart of the city right after you pull out of the rental company’s lot you choose to rent from. Toronto is the largest city in Canada and fifth most populated city in North America. It sits right on the edge of Lake Ontario and is part of Canada’s largest metropolitan area that is made up of Toronto, Scarborough, Mississauga, North York, Markham and Richmond Hill. There are also about a dozen or so small towns scattered throughout the region.

Nearby Car Rental Addresses…

One of the nearby Avis locations is right across from the Wayne Gretsky restaurant at 40 Blue Jays Way (see picture below).  Another is situated at 3193 Dundas Street West, a block or two south of the Rummymede Park.  Also, the address at the Toronto Metro Station (type in Metro Station, Union Station or Front Street into the booking engine above to retrieve the vehicles available) pickup location is 200 Wellington St W.
Refueling your vehicle is as easy as picking a street and driving down it. You’re in the heart of the biggest city in Canada! There are gas stations everywhere! You may not like the prices, but you’re stuck with them regardless. All seven companies are merciless when it comes to people who don’t meet their full/full fuel policy, so I highly recommend you refuel before you take your car back.

Taking the ferry from the airport to the main land is one of the joys of flying in at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. The ferry runs every fifteen minutes and will take anyone on the ninety-second trip across the one hundred and twenty-one meter stretch of water for free. You can load your vehicle onto the ferry as well for just eleven dollars.
