Orio Al Serio Airport Basics.....
The Bergamo airport (or sometimes called Milan Bergamo, or the Orio Al Serio Airport) is situated in the town of Orio Al Serio, about 3 or 4 km's south and east of Bergamo, Italy. Almost 8 million passengers were served by the airport in 2010, and is generally regarded as one of the top 5 busiest airports by passenger count in all of Italy. Ryanair remains as a very large player to and from the airport, representing over three-fourths of all flights. While many arriving passengers travel to the city of Bergamo, there are hundreds of little town surrounding the airport.

If traveling to Bergamo, you will take the Via Aeroporto running parallel to the A4 Motorway, due West. Watch for blue signs as you approach the exit towards Bergamo, Milano, and Lecco - veer right onto the exit. Continue traveling North. Merge into SpexSS591. You will approach a traffic circle - take the exit right onto and watch for signs. Drive slow as quick decisions will need to be made. You will jockey around the traffic circle in a counter-clockwise way, under a bridge, eventually heading back West towards Bergamo. Veer right towards the Via Zanica. Signs will continue to be posted. Continue on Via Zanica as you travel towards the city center.
Airport Amenities.....
One of the most disappointing amenities (or lack thereof), is that there is no free Wi-Fi in the Orio Al Serio Airport. It ill take a small payment to hop on the web.
Many shops are situated within the Bergamo airport. They include the Aeronautica Miltare, Biogio' Bijoux, Boggi, Bottega Dei Sapori, Carpisa, Conte of Florence, Dufrital Duty Free Shop, Energy Flower, Kiko, Legami, Man of Italy, Mirco Della Vecchia, Nespoli Funghi, Puntoottico, Timerland, Tosca Blu, and the Watch Studio.
Also within the airport is a bank, a foreign exchange broker (You can buy Traveller's Cheques, buy-back services, and cashing of Traveller's Cheques, Prepaid Phone cards, and top-up cards.) There is even a church and a pharmacy located within the airport. There are of course many areas of food and refreshments. Most recently, there were at least five, including the Autogrill and the Juice Bar.
Orio Al Serio Airport Hotels.....
One option for air travelers is the NH Orio al Serio Hotel. It's right across the road (A4) from the Airport - not really an airport hotel, but pretty close. It's fairly new and comfortable. There is a large shopping center right next to the hotel and prices seem reasonable based upon the competition.
