The airport facility is known for its vast size, refurbished modern feel, and speedy security lines. With a family-friendly atmosphere and over 40 restaurants, spending a few hours delayed here can be more enjoyable than you’d think. 20 minutes away from Baltimore, 45 minutes away from the nation’s capital, and an hour away from Alexandria, VA; driving out in a rental car will be the most convenient option for travelers.

Baltimore Airport Car Rental.....

Currently, there are eight wonderful car rental companies that do business with the BWI Airport.  Each company now is off-site, and will shuttle you to their location minutes from the airport.  Also, all will help with driving directions out of the off-site facility if you're unsure how you're going to get where you wanna go.  Avis, Alamo, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty all would make any passenger an excellent choice on their excursion throughout the Baltimore area.

After being shuttled to the rental car location (7432 New Ridge Road, Hanover, MD), you may need directions on how to get to the Baltimore are, presuming that's where you're going.  The rental car facility sits on a four-lane so it's not too difficult to get in and out of.  After securing your car, we recommend turning right on New Ridge Road and heading South for about 1.5 Miles.  Take the 100 West as if going to Ellicot City, and stay on 100 for less than one mile.  Take the exit 9B for North Baltimore on the Baltimore - Washington Parkway, or highway 295.  Stay on it until you enter the city of Baltimore.

Approaching back to the car rental return area, take the same Baltimore - Washington Parkway that you rode into Baltimore on.  Head Southwest on that road, take the 100 on the cloverleaf, towards Glen Burnie.  Finally, exit on 10B and merge onto MD-713 N - Arundel Mills Blvd toward Hover.  Continue on New Ridge Road and you will run right into the car rental return facility on the left.

Other Airport Amenities.....

In the mood for food? Thurgood Marshall Airport will have what you are looking for in terms of a quick bite to eat, but not much else. Sub shops like Potbelly’s, Subway, and Quizno’s are conveniently located in every concourse. Enjoy a retro American diner experience at Silver Diner, or grab a drink and a burger at Shannon’s cozy Irish pub. The standard fare of McDonald’s, Panda Express, Wendy’s, or Arby’s can all be expected to be found here. Baltimore being a bay town, you can find yourself a Maryland favorite crab cake or a basket of shrimp & fries.

Pick up a cup of coffee from either Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, or Java City and get to work on your laptop with a paid daily or monthly WiFi pass from Boingo Wireless. Or perhaps take the kids to the Observation Gallery mini-museum where they can explore a mock cockpit, or aviation exhibits.Parents will find a lounge in the Observation Gallery to keep an eye on their kids while relaxing and enjoying the view of the airfield. BWI uniquely offers a refuge for those seeking shelter from the bustling terminal in a mediation room located between Concourses D and E on the upper level.

As a training hub for TSA Security, there is more personnel available to move the security line along. However, as with most airports, baggage claim can be slow and a nightmare if your airliner loses your bags. Parking in one of 31,000 spots can be expensive and can drastically slow down your travel with shuttle buses ferrying you to and from far away lots. Generally, BWI will be a better bet than Dulles or Reagan National airports in terms of speed, comfort, facilities, and flight options. You can’t go wrong with this airport’s amenities.
