Antigua Airport Car Rental

The V. C. Bird International Airport (or Antigua Airport) is located on the Antigua Island.  When the airport was called Coolidge International Airport, the facility was used as a military base during World War II.  The airport is now called V. C. Bird after its first prime minister, Vere Cornwall Bird.

There are a few services available at the airport.  These include a couple of souvenir shops, a duty-free shop, a restaurant and a bar. Car rental companies available within the complex include Avis and Thrifty among others.

When renting a car in Antigua, car rental customers will need a valid drivers license plus temporary local permit from car rental agency.  This is a certificate that you will purchase from the agency.  I believe the cost is still $20, and the certificate lasts for three months.

If you do a lot of exploring in Antigua, you will definitely want to rent a car.  Some actually say that if you use taxis to take you where you want to go (when you want to go, as well) you will end up with about the same cost.  Of course, with a car rental, you have a little more control, but it's your choice.  After deciding to rent a car in Antigua, some recommend taking a cab to the hotel, then get the car the next day.  Driving during the following day allows you to get acclimated to the goats, cars, potholes, etc.  If you decide to rent from us right after getting off the airplane, we would love to serve you.
