Albury Airport Basics.....
Albury Airport is owned and operated by Albury, and is the 2nd busiest airport in Regional New South Wales. Just under 400,000 travelers go thru the terminal every year and the airport services more than 200 flights per week. Flights to Sydney by Qantas, Virgin Blue, and Regional Express (flies to Melbourne every day except for Saturday) are available. Albury only has one runway and three taxiways, so it does stay busy with the traffic that comes thru there.
Car Rentals at the Albury Airport.....
Getting out of the Albury Airport is fairly simple. You simply travel South on Airport Drive until you "T" into Riverina. If you're headed into Albury, take a right and travel West on Rivernina (or Highway 58). You will enter Albury in about 4 or 5 km's. Most of the drive is a leisurely two-lane countryish-type drive.
On the other hand, if you take a left out of Airport Drive, you will eventually get to the Murray River. The Murray river is forever linked to Aborigines in the area and wildlife such as Koala Bears, Dragon Lizards, and Emus can be found in the Murray River Basin.
Now when you are done with your trip, and you're ready to return your rental car back to the airport, make sure and fill up the vehicle with fuel before you return the car. On your way back, you will run into a BP station (or United Station) at the corner of Young Street and Riverina (actually this is the junction where Riverina funnels into Guinea Street and ends). This filling station will be about 3 km from the airport facility.
Avis, Budget, Hertz and Thrifty currently hold car rental offices within the Albury airport. Any of these car rental companies should offer not only great service, but a reasonable price on your car rental travels throughout the Albury area.
Aiport Amenities.....
The airport is small, so you'll not find the vast amenities that you may find at larger, busier airports throughout the world. When an airport serves less 300,000 to 400,000 passengers per year, there's not a lot of need to spend money on a fantastic array of bells and whistles.
One thing that you will find in the airport is a mural depicting the history of a Uiver Airplane, as it relates to Albury. It is an interesting story of a city rallying around a particular airplane, that found itself lost during an electrical storm. The mural calls travelers back some eighty years ago to a time almost forgotten.
Car Rental Driving Distances.....
As stated above, the rental car driving distance from the airport to the town of Albury is about 4 or 5 kilometers. However, we thought it might be handy for you if you knew driving distances for other nearby towns, or nearby attractions. All estimated driving distances are just that - estimated. So, if you're needing exact driving distances, please reserve a GPS for your trip. All distances are from the Albury Airport.
